Is it hard to get a room for superbowl weekend? Also if available what are the prices like for that weekend?

I would say at this point good luck. HDR, SL and HLH are probably booked solid. I would get on the phone today and call them, plus call La Amistad, Hemingway and Castillo ASAP. Good Luck!

good luck getting a room at this late hour (SB and Halloween book almost a year out).

That being said, if you go during those two times please enjoy the polska kielbasa, Italian, bangers, sicilian wine, smoked, Andouille, Boudin Blanc, Braunschweiger, Chorizo, Braunschweiger, Cervelat, Bratwurst, Merguez, linguica, ......it will all be there in abundance  .....let the festivus commence!

2 other hotels to consider are the Hotel Vesuvio and The Dunn Inn. Vesuvio seems to have no Website but here's a TA review with contact info: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review ... _Jose.html
Here's for the Dunn Inn: http://www.hoteldunninn.com/
There's also the Hotel Santo Tomas, though they are not particularly Chica-friendly: http://www.hotelsantotomas.com/
The Sleep Inn downtown might also be considered: http://www.sleepinnsanjose.com/

Final word: You're gonna have such a great time this time that you'll book one of the main venues for next year while onsite.

You will probably be happier not being at one of the main spots anyways. Too much testosterone during the big events. Good call by Jazz, check out the Dunn Inn.

Here are a few more from the CRT discount page.
Hotel Freebird and Hotel Tiquicia are B&B places, better suited I'd think for MP fans; Hotel Marruecos and Inca Real are traditional-style hotels. Check here for those as well as the previously mentioned venues: https://costaricaticas.com/discounts.php

1 good thing about the hotels we frequent in sjo they don't jack up their rates on busy weekends. You just need to book far in advance to guarantee a room you want. Here in Vegas if you need a room during a big convention or holiday or special event be prepared to pay 3 or 4 times the usual rate!
