When I made my reservation at Hotel Castillo via email last year I did - no problems. This year I booked at SL via their online site and provided visa info for my stay their in September - so far no problems. In the past I used Orbitz and travelocity but found it alot cheaper to book directly with the hotel.

Same with me for stays at HLH and SL. I use my credit card on the website or by email to hold the room, then pay for it in cash, since most hotels that I stay in internationally don't take cc for payment all the time.

In general, yes - just like in the USA

If (after 6 years on this board, I've become pretty good at reading between the lines :) ) you are like me and don't like putting your CC info on the hotels site, regardless of the security assurances tendered  - you can call and give it to them over the phone (yeah, I know, they can still use it for bad purposes; no assurances in life) - personally, I have never had a bad experience in CR booking hotel rooms - or anything else for that matter - in the last 10 years I have experienced at least 5 instances of idenity fraud

How can they use a CC# to hold your reservation, but not take it for the bill??

Where do you travel to Internationally?

Just wondering :D

I travel to Greece frequently. But being some hotels like to play with decimals sometimes(hasn't happened to me yet) I prefer cash to pay for hotels.

Cloadcoe-I have done so for Hotel Castillo and La Amistad numerous times and they both do not even put a hold on it. I always pay in cash. This is an honest way for them to ensure that you don't cancel at the last minute-. Look at their cancellation policies but I believe either will not charge you if cancelled 3 days before reservation.
