not picking on you MH but i think its sort of comical to insinuate no one in amistad is going to try and pick up on your gf/wife. there is no code of ethics on this that i'm aware of.

Didn't notice anybody mention the Holiday Inn. If they did sorry, I overlooked it. I enjoyed staying there a few times in the past when I brought someone with me. The rooms are actually really nice, not a good spot for mongers though.

That's an understatement--isn't the Chica fee something like $70?

If you must have a 100% monger-free hotel for the family, then forget the Amistad. True, it's not the SL, but it does act like an annex, and there will be guys bringing in obvious hookers at all times of the day, a chance to hear loud bragging about the previous night's sexcapades at breakfast, the click-clack of chica heels, and if your hottie wife is alone at the bar or lobby, then probably at least one drunken monger wiil try to hit on her (hard-core mongers don't limit themselves to just the HDR/SL chicas, they go after any good-looking piece of poosie, pro and non-pro alike). Aside from that, it doesn't have a pool or spa or such, things which would be great for the wife and K*D (I presume whle you're at the dentist).

Thank You, Thank You and Thank You all :D

After taking everyone's advice into consideration, narrowed my choice to a place in Playa Hermosa. It was recommended by brother DGD and looks great from the pictures. A 2 BR condo on the beachfront for six nights. Wife looking forward to it and another plus is that I will not have that irresistible urge to go play poker or to look around in Del Rey.

I am in the planning process of getting from the airport to Playa Hermosa which looks easy(RT 27&34). Had no sucess in finding a GPS App for Andriod with good reviews. I have downloaded Waze, Sygic and Google App and hope that one of these will work reliably.

Pura vida

Playa Hermosa is where I rented a house when my entire family came for a visit. Love the area and Manuel Antonio is just down the road. Some neat roads you can hike on back into the jungle/rainforest and see an amazing assortment of animals. The Backyard Hotel has a very happening bar attached with the best Ladies Night in the entire Jaco area IMHO.

One warning about this area, it can be dangerous at night. The beachfront hotels have been robbed at gunpoint more than once and NEVER spend time on that beach after dark. Do NOT go too far down the beach away from civilization either. You are also probably aware that Playa Hermosa is NOT for swimming. If you are a pro lifeguard or surfer, you can get away with it but anyone short of SEAL swimming skills should not go in the ocean there...stick to the pool.

I wouldn't advise renting a car, bringing a car seat and all that however, in that area, not a lot to do within walking distance so may be a necessity.

Thanks Puravidatransport

I do not understand the no swimming advice. I mean neither of us is a pro surfer or anything but is there any harm just going knee deep into the shallow water :?

Is there a good supermarket in the area you would recommend?

The no swimming advice is because that beach is a world-class surf beach. Not the largest swells in the world but it is very consistent with ride-able waves almost all the time. The waves bring in a lot of water so the undertow/rip currents are very strong. The beach also has a pretty good slope to it so knee deep is about 6-8 feet from the shoreline. If you want to swim in the Pacific, go to Manuel Antonio. Also, Hermosa is black/grey sand that gets very hot where MA has nice, white sand beaches with some shade.

There is one small 'super' in Playa Hermosa that has basics (and live chickens). We bought a lot of stuff there but for good shopping, stop off in Jaco on the way. There is a Maxi-Pali (I think that is the name they are using today, really just a Wal-Mart in disguise) just off (and visible from) the main road that skirts east of Jaco itself.

Listen to Puravidatransport about the swimming. That shore break can slam you to the sand or suck you out easily! Not a big fan of maxi bodega though. Would recommend stopping by the AutoMercado in Herradura.

Good point Thirdworld...not a fan of anything Wal-Mart either. The AutoMercado is just as convenient and carries a lot more of the brands that Americans will recognize. It is a bit more expensive and doesn't have live chickens either
