Robert A. Heinlein discussed the logical endpoint to this "security" in his novel The Puppet Masters, which this article uses as a basis for discussion:

Great post. I only find blatant partisan politics here to be problematic, as it just leads to conflicts and divisivness- this explores current socioeconomic realities that transcend narrow conceptions of party politics.
