I'll be checking in there tomorrow, so I can let you know about the restaurant.

Since it's my first visit I'm not in a position to tell you if anything has changed, but if there are more specifics you'd like to know about, let me know and I'll find out for you!

Well you have the answer from Nishnawturner - no restaurant. The bar is open if you want a quiet drink - personally I prefer places with a little more going on, like SL or HLH for example! Both are a very comfortable walk from the Castillo and with the exception of a few streetwalkers close to HLH the streets have been virtually deserted the past two nights.

Myrivers, when are you going to be back in SJ? The guys were just down there and I'll be there 5/3 - 5/12.

The restaurant is closed again? They can't seem to keep one going there. The asian place they had there wasn't bad. I agree with you on that back bar, it's cool when you just want to relax and have a beer.

Damn, I sure hope Darren and staff land on their feet during the course of any exchange. Good people.

This has been a long time coming. I heard chisme about this 6 years ago when I used to stay at the Castillo. It's a great place, but I think the dueno sees the handwriting on the wall. I hope Darren and his crew find a new home.

I believe the Hotel has been 4sale for sometime. The restaurant was about to open by a Asian dude
when I was last there but I guess it was short lived. Room #11 was my fav stay.

That Asian dude did in fact open, and the food was great, however, apparently the fare was not to the liking of the area taste buds.

Darren and the rest of the staff are the best part of the Castillo. The hotel could use a lot of repairs and upgrades that the current owner was too cheap or unable to complete. Hopefully, the new owner will retain the current staff and fix the place up a bit (and without raising the rates too much).
