Unless you are traveling with the poster (and therefore directly involved by anothers actions, at least to a degree), why does someone care what another guy does during his vacation -

The only time it annoys me is when someone posts something really stupid (like in the Trip Reports section) or tries to justify their own stupidity - but someone posting about what they did, or did not do - absent stupidity - owes no explanations, appologies, or justifications to anyone.

Thanks to most of you for your responses and opinions. I have to say there are a few cocks on here though. I joined this site to learn and I posted this seemingly stupid question in the NEWBIE section where a stupid question should go. It's up to the experienced guys to decide if they want to read these newbie dumb questions. Cut off membership and delete this section if you don't like it. Or a better idea, don't read this section.

First a guy attacked my question about the women of CR by assuming I would only be in Del Rey the whole time. When I responded and explained my original question by saying I would travel the country, I was attacked saying I had to explain away my time in San Jose by saying I was there to do other things too. Neither was correct. It makes me wonder whether any advice on this site is valid.

I can handle assholes on my own in person. On a board like this, it's pointless. But thanks to the majority of responders for the thoughtful responses.

Gotta just take the board for what it is 316Mike. Take the good info and filter out the BS. The whole thing can be over analyzed at times when it all boils down to getting laid. Believe me, once you get down, you'll meet a lot of normal, everyday guys here for various reasons including the tang. All forums, no matter the subject matter, have extremist views. Absolutely, as long as you can communicate and you can act like a normal person. Usually that means speaking Spanish well enough to have a conversation beyond, "Cuanto?".
Don't assume ticas (or Latin American women in general) will behave the same way. Sounds to me you're planning to capitalize on the fact you're a gringo to attract regular, non-pro ticas as opposed to ticas who are working girls.

IMO just "being a gringo" is not going to help you all that much in that regard - it might get you noticed as "different" but that's all. Being able to relate and communicate will help you far more. Being rich and / or good-looking won't hurt, either.

If you do go down and you speak Spanish, I suggest getting out of the usual monger haunts. Try the malls, visit the outlying towns, walk around, go to tico bars (e.g. La Calle de la Amargura) or dance clubs and strike up conversations. Be friendly without being pushy or aggressive. You never know what you might find.

Is this the first internet message board you have EVER posted to or read? If yes, then you are forgiven. If not, these comments are a massive overreaction at the very least and are ridiculous at the very worst. You got several reasonable responses to your post and a couple guys chimed in with their own point of view that didn't have much to do with the OP's (your) comments. That is, this is a STANDARD thread on any active and helpful forum on the internet. A less helpful forum would have ignored you entirely or given you one or 2 unhelpful responses.

Having said all that, let me clear this up for you now that I have decided to post :

1. Yes, 99% of the women in Costa Rica are not prostitutes by profession and have day jobs although they are easier to get into bed than American women. Some will disagree with this but it's true, under the right circumstances mostly concerning anonymity, MANY Costa Rican girls will Phuck for a couple hundred bucks. I speak from personal experience here.

2. You have very little possibility of dating a Costa Rican girl who is not a hooker since you seem not to speak Spanish. Yes, some Costa Rican girls speak English but it is almost never fluent enough to have an entire relationship in English and if it is, they work in a call center and are already dating their Gringo boss/colleague or are not interested in dating Gringos/foreigners of any kind due to concerns about stability or the fact that they want a Tico husband only.

Mind you, I am talking about a REAL relationship which could lead somewhere. if you stay here long enough, I am sure you won't have that much trouble finding a tica Phuck buddy who you won't directly pay for sex but will still cover bills for and Phuck in exchange while she talks to you in broken English.

I want to answer this but keep in mind it has probably been answered as I so far have only read thus far.

I love the hobby and have no plans on quitting or nor am I ashamed of it in fact I often shock people and tell straights why I really go But there is more to life than pu*sy jeez I was never more than a two a day guy three once not counting threesomes. But I at 51 am sick and see my mortality I can get great enjoyment meeting non hobby Costa Ricans and also a day watching the sunset at the beach smoking a cigar by myself reflecting is pretty cool and fun to me.

Chill out 316. I did SJO 2 times solo before I was even aware of this site. After joining, I can attest that these guys are generally spot on with information and advice (some I had already learned the hard way). People have different personalities. A few of these guys are just naturally smart asses or ball busters, but it does not mean that they don't know the gulch (and all that goes with that) very well. So just relax and go with the flow. You will learn more on this board in a week than you would solo in SJO in 6 months. Peace....BTW, I'm naturally a smart ass...lol.
