Ok. I'm going to try this again so all of the CRT members can REALLY recognize the true bargain here and maybe we can get you a little more business:

$250 + 125 expenses = $375 per angler, per day.... correct ???
$375 per angler X 4 anglers = $1500...... correct ??

Then you say  "or you could charter a boat for $1500/day - you pick"
Isn't that the same thing?? (except for the fact that I can charter TWO boats for that price)! :!:

Look Bstrong -
Nobody cares how much your dock fees are,
or how much you pay for insurance every year,
or how much your monthly nut is for your crew salaries and social security and health insurance.
Nobody cares how much fuel costs are at the marina,
or how much you spent to secure the permits for setting up your business,
and noone cares how much your miscellaneous annual expenses are,
nor do they care about your maintenance fees or cost of tackle, oil changes, shipping expenses, duty fees or any other variable costs.
Simply put, guys just want to jump on a boat for a few hours, turn the handle a few times, have a few beers, then return to chasing tail that night.

Basically - You've got a 10' wide center console boat with outboard motors that's moored at Los Sueños, floating amongst all the multi-million dollar yachts and sportfishers. Yee-Haw! If you have elected to run your boat out of Los Sueños, that's great. And everyone's in business to make a buck, no doubt. But don't pretend like you're doing the guy a favor by "letting him fish with you for $375 per day". Or that you offer the "best fishing experience in the world". How could you possibly make that statement? Have you fished with every other captain and crew in the world ?!?!?!? Frankly, that's an insult. And 4,200 fish over the past 6 years? That's only about an average of about 13 or 14 fish per week. Don't worry about that. It will eventually get better. 8)

if you dont want to throw in $375 for the best fishing experience in the world...then don't.

Good advice! :o  :!:

I've met many, many CRT members, and the vast majority of members are pretty sharp. So at this point, I guess we'll just let them decide for themselves who they want to fish with, and where they want to fish. I'm just happy that there are a couple other captains and crews in Costa Rica who offer fishing trips!

NEXT!

Mucho Gusto, there are a lot of guys that come to CR and fell off the proverbial turnip truck! They will pay. At that price I better be getting my C*ck sucked for the duration of the fishing trip.

Try these local fishermen for excellent deals;
Papagayo Sportfishing
Genardo Mendez 8331-2731

Tres Amigos

Lino Guido Corea and his son Dennis
Playas del Coco
2670-2143 or 8836-8468

Eric Contreras
Playas del Coco
2670-1525 or 8911-9088

Between these guys they have 6 boats--range $500 to $800 per day all inclusive + tip they never worry about any license, but I usually have one from the Rio Colorado anyway.
They include lunch, beer, fruit, fuel, bait, and anything else you need! They also pick you up at your hotels beach in a skiff, and transfer out to the fishing boat at no extra charge. I have fished with them several times, and scored on Dorado, Tuna, red snapper and more. Great guys and they even make you sashimi with wasabi right after the fish is landed--none fresher!!
Best is that as affordable as they are you can have the whole boat to youself if you want, and catch fish until your arms hurt!
B Strong sounds like you really had to pay the big time gringo fishing tax

I'm not taking sides here, ... but... I've chartered:

... a boat in Jaco twice with a skipper named Tony... he charges $350/day for a 26' boat and $500/day for a 30' boat. His boats sail from the beach (not Los Suenos). The daily rates include everything (bait, tackle, food and drinks.)

... a boat out of Playa Flamingo, Guanacaste with MuchoGusto's outfit, Victours, for 1 1/2 days of fishing. The boats were 30'+ sportfishers with captain, mate, tackle and bait, transportation, food and drinks. I believe we paid about $900 for the full-day and $400 for a subsequent half-day of fishing (we got a discount on the 1/2 day).

... a boat out of Quepos, the 37' Estrella del Mar, for a full day of fishing. The $850 charter fee included Captain/Mate, licenses for 4, tackle, bait, hot lunch and snacks, drinks and transportation from the hotel.

Blue Devil and B Strong --no sides to choose we are all fishermen...just depends on where you fish, for what, and the equipment you use. I think B Strongs prices are OK because it is close to SJ. But I don't billfish anymore after 10 years in Hawaii.
Those places I mentioned and some of Blue Devil's require abit more in transportation and lodging costs, but make up for it in location!

Still my favorite is the Caribbean side fishing for tarpon and snook. I just find the Pacific side too built up and touristy after all these years. But for the right deal on a quick day trip I would be tempted to go fish for wahoo or dorado.

Glad we at least have a discussion going about the fishing possibilities.

I've visited the Caribbean side many times, but never fished there. I had a couple guys in Manzanillo offer to take me out in their panga boats, but never took them up on it.

Gentlemen,

The only reason that I posted in this thread is because I've always felt that knowledge & information is power. Plus, CRT is about sharing information with the brotherhood, and watching each other's backs. The OP (GatorMitch) is a long time CRT member whom I've had the pleasure of getting to know over the years. Matter of fact, I even took him and another CRT member fishing on one of our boats up in Nicaragua for a day.

GatorMitch was requesting info on fishing in CR. Then, the other person (Bstrong) who is NOT a member of CRT and NEVER posted on CRT - decides to make his 1st post in this thread, quoting ridiculous prices, trying to drum up business for his boat in Los Sueños. If you'll notice, Bstrong has a total of 6 posts, and all 6 of them are in this thread!

I have no dog in this fight, but I do know a little bit about Sportfishing in Costa Rica. As many of you know, I own a fishing and day tours company in Guanacaste, but you will never see me plug my business here on CRT because I'm not an official CRT sponsor. But when I see some non-member trying to pull one over the eyes of a long-time member & friend of mine, I'm not gonna sit here and let him take it in the shorts. If someone wants to pay about double the market price for a fishing trip, that's up to them. But if they read this thread, at least they'll have a little more information that may help them to make their decision on who they fish with, and/or how much they'll pay.

And as far as the comment on fishing with the "best fishing company in the world" ????? I have fished all over the world, and I've had the good furtune of meeting and fishing with some of the finest captains and crews in numerous countries. That comment was sad at best!

Wow! Got a bunch of response to this post, most of it very helpful! Especially glad this board has people like Mucho Gusto keeping it real. Truly appreciate the brotherhood ...

Don't have my exact itinerary worked out yet by an means, but I booked the flight so there's no turning back. Flying in on April 5th and staying till the 15th. Probably going to do the Atlantic side at the Rio Colorado Lodge early in the trip (thanks for coaching me up on this place Zabu!), and hope to arrange some trips fishing Pacific side too while I'm there. Might not get back for a while, so I'm going all out.

Thanks again for the wisdom!
