KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — A former write-in candidate for Arizona governor who ended up homeless in Ukraine says he is flying back to Phoenix next week after being entangled in an online dating scam.

Cary Dolego, 53, ended up on the streets of a western Ukrainian city after a dating scam. He came in search of a Ukrainian bride but ran out of money. He said Thursday he will return to Phoenix thanks to a loan from the U.S. Embassy.

Social workers in Chernivtsi last week found Dolego among the homeless — hungry, unkempt and suffering from pneumonia.

Dolego, who ran for governor last year, sold his house and belongings in Queen Creek, Arizona to fund his trip to Ukraine. He says he had been planning to meet and settle with a Chernivtsi woman he had met online, but she never showed up.

The woman, Yulia, eventually showed up, but claimed someone had hacked into her account and had been exchanging e-mails with Dolego on her behalf. She refused to give her last name, citing privacy concerns.

"We've heard lots of stories of Americans using Ukrainian dating services and hoping to find their future wives," said U.S. Embassy spokesman Jim Wolf.

It was unclear why Dolego did not immediately seek help from the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, which offers loans and other support to destitute Americans abroad to help them return home.

Anastasia Beridze, a social worker whose charity spotted Dolego, suggested he was seeking unusual experiences.

"It was a fun adventure for him," Beridze said. "He likes this lifestyle, but now it's over and he is returning to America."

Dolego said he plans to live with one of his three adult Ch*ldren back in Arizona and find a job, but eventually would like to return to Ukraine, a country he fell in love with.

"The people in the Ukraine are the most hospitable you'd ever want to meet," Dolego said, speaking from the Chernivtsi hospital where he was being treated for pneumonia. "I need a special lady, a Ukrainian lady so that we can start a life together."

Wow! To answer someone's earlier question about how to help someone from falling into these traps? The answer is you don't. Someone that has that in them cannot be talked out of anything. I can't understand the thought process that would cause someone to do that. Perhaps it is something like people that have addictions. Maybe you can't understand it. Back in my day, it was called good old fashioned common sense. Saw that story on Yahoo before seeing it here and just shook my head and chalked it up to things I can't understand and won't try.

Yeah, I just can't wrap my head around the absurdity of it. Was sitting in the SL yesterday thinking this could fit into a piece I'm possibly going to write. Part of a bigger picture. I was thinking, if I get bored and everything looks the same after a little while, how redundent must it be to the chicas. I mean they have literally seen and done it all. They are there full time, or a lot of them are anyway. After a while it all has to just blend together. Even if they see an attractive guy. And by the nature of their occupation, it is in their business to pull in as much money as possible. I mean as much as we talk about this subject, what percentage do you think really want to be peddling ass? As a consumer, it is the man's job to use judgement. In the end, everyone is going to do what they are going to do. I agree some may learn by getting burned one tiime, but before they are burned, men rarely take advice on women. Would be interesting to know what the phenomenon is psychologically speaking.

in the case of american men i think there are a couple of common themes that makes it possible.
one is that american men put pu*sy on a pedestal. we are raised to try and please women and as a result find ourselves in many cases emasculated.
once exposed to a girl that will do almost anything you want, regardless if some guys are paying for it or getting it for free, a loss of common sense occurs. and it is possible to put on blinders to what is painfully obvious to others.
she is the woman of his dreams.
and then there is the fact that imo men are the romantic ones that create this vision in their minds. its the fairy tale happily ever after we are taught to pursue from our childhoods. those feelings are prey for women everywhere.
putas are just really good at spotting it and working it.

Naw that's classic scape goating..blaming (anything) on ur past or parents, not enuf hugs etc etc etc..

Once ur a man, you have the power to be how you want to be (personally). More and more it becomes not chasing a woman to please her, but simply because in some capacity she pushes all the right buttons (and somewhere) ina guys mind he may not think he can duplicate that feeling or get another chica/woman as good etc..

I like TW's advice saying you can't help some people but, the real of it is (behind all the smoking mirrors) guys fall "victim" because they couldn't ascertain if the woman (really) loves him or not...

maybe you are a unique and in touch emotional vehicle without baggage. but thats just not true of most men ime.
i am not blaming anyone for why i am how i am. and i certainly don't put a women on a pedestal. well maybe my daughter but thats just a little different.
the point it we are products of our environment. and of course we can change that but when it comes to emotion most men just have no idea what they are doing.

See it all the time, normally, its a guy who has been raised in a small town in East Dumbfuck somewhere, brought up to always respect women (not saying that's a bad thing, just realize that there are many bad women in the world) be civalris and be in that cartegory to think beautiful equals good. Same type of guy has been getting the run around from women in the states his whole life and gets to CR and suddenly its like he won the pu*sy lottery (Time of your life, eh Joel?). But its hardly Mongers 0, there are a lot of guys in the gulch that know the score and quite frankly its funny to listen to those Yaboos that think they suddenly became Tom Cruise or Bradley Cooper; so sad . The fact of the matter is these girls are in the business to get as much money from the guy as possible and that sometimes requires lying. Guys that go into this thinking that they are just meeting the girl next door, who happens to be 19, with a beautiful face and kickass body, while they are an overweight, balding, forty or fiftysomething are just kidding themselves to think that it is about anything other than the money. And those young guys who speak Spanish, have a decent amount of looks and time on target have absolutely no excuse to be shooting fish in a barrel that is the gulch.

Last weekend in TJ I was in a mood (semi-sh*t faced). I had just sessioned with a spinner who was on her first day at a different bar. The mesero's know me and bring by women they know I would like. The bar is mainly locals, so she probably had not been with many gringo's. It was a good session with a VGL spinner.

Off to the next bar, and very content. I picked the hottest woman in the bar (IMO), who is also one of the "feature dancers". She tried to make me come over to her, but finally the queen got off her throne and came to me. Fortunately she spoke pretty good English, which is also a minus at times, but at least I got to use all my sh*t. I worked her over good verbally. She was twirling her hair, looking down and slightly turning away when responding, blushing, etc. She even admitted when I asked if was I making her nervous, "Yes, and I like it". It seemed to stoke the fire in her that often isn't ignited at her job.

Eventually she offered to do a TLN with me (which is very rare in TJ). She said that she wanted to spend some time with me. I said "No thanks, maybe another time". She was dazed and confused as I got up and walked away. We'll see how this slow play works out. I played to her psyche, and got her out of her "I am the queen of this bar" element.

It doesn't matter how hot they are, they are still just women who actually like the man to be in charge. I gave up my b*lls in my marriage, and I will never do it again.

Only a few days to MDE and a major party!!!!!!!!!!!!
