I am moving end of July. I have packed and repacked several times. I keep eliminating things. I got down to 2 bags. First leg of flight on Southwest- bags fly free. Second leg is Jet Blue. First bag is free, and second is free on some international flights. If not second bag is only $30. One thing to think about. Doesn't make sense to take heavier items that you can buy new in CR cheaper than what it costs you to pay in bags fees or shipping. Just my $.02 worth. The heaviest piece of clothing I am taking I will wear on flight which cuts down on weight too.

I'm going to try to get away with a large briefcase as a "personal item" in addition to my carry-on. If they say anything, I bet I can find a lady with purse bigger than my briefcase and I'll ask them are they just picking on me because I'm a man?

OK, i got here yesterday and am loving it so far. Ran into about two dozen things I'm just going to have to get used to, but hey, it's a foreign country and you have to embrace change and just roll with it.

Word to everyone that uses the ICE booth - it moved. I came in April and it was still on the second floor of SJO, but now it has moved to the area right before you go through customs. I spent forever and a freaking day trying to find it.

Also, i would highly recommend Steven/Puravidatransport. He's a great guy and was very helpful on my first day here.

My current favorite favorita hunted me down within hours of my arrival. We spent most of the afternoon together, but I was exhausted. I had a few rum and cokes to celebrate my arrival and a great Rocky Patel Sun grown 60 ring on my patio and then hit the sack. Slept 12 hours. Except for the frequent intervals the train woke me up. Yes, this has to be the same train or a similar one to the one that blasts the Amistad. Well, I'm only going to be here at the Amistad for a month or two.

Pura Vida!

I am sure going to do my best. I went to Pricemart with my favorite favorita today (she has a card) and dropped a lot of money trying to stock up my apartment. But prices were better than I'd seen elsewhere, so i asked her and she said she'd help me get a card. She's a real sweetheart, I'd fall in love if I didn't know better but 20 years of marriage taught me a lot....

I found out that one of my favorite LBFM's (that means Little Brown Phuck Machines, I learned it from a buddy that was in the Navy) had reappeared after an eighteen month absence. Shirley, a Nica with long hair and very strong hands, who I had met in 2009 but did not see after the end of that year. She's back, so I had to see if things had changed, and they hadn't. She's a great sports Phuck, and she hangs out at the SL a lot. Plus, she's got really strong hands, and I can usually get a HJ for a second pop. We had a good time. Not bad for just my second day here. Only cost me $70. Got her phone number as she is a great LBFM.

Greengo's post are usually spot on IMNSHO. You can spin your wheels off the side of a mountain here if you try to figure some things out without a little help.

Getting a license, medical exam , blood test....... Finding a rug for your apartment .... Having someone show you that has already done it is valuable.

Keep life extremely simple for a while here without trying to duplicate the 'luxuries' of the USA. Example: You will be amazed at what kind of meals a Nica can cook off a two burner stove with two pots in a small kitchen. You don't need a Sub-Zero Stainless Steal kitchen or a 30 piece cookware set.

Yep, I'm trying to learn to live like a tico. Keep it simple, enjoy life and limit the luxuries.

In my humble opinion, starting out in San Pedro is good for a newcomer to CR. Lots of activity, close to downtown and the cost of living is fair. Once you have been down here for a minute you will get a feel for the kind of people you like to be around and you can decide then. I myself prefer to be close to the city because that is me. Although, many guys come down and find out that country life is the way for them and they move to the middle of nowhere with their girl and that is a wrap. Whatever you choose, make sure you get a lot of input from guys who have been here for a while. You will need to wade through the bitterness of a lot of these guys, but you will get what you want. I am easy to find if you need any help when you get here.

K-Pax I will be down the end of the month to start a new life. Starting in San Pedro. Going to try like you and use the Kiss Principal- (Keep it Simple Stupid). Trying to live as simple as I can and Tico style as I can. You already understand one of the basic things. It is a foreign country, learn to accept change and adapt. Be flexible, and as much as some of the ladies are looking for a novio, don't be in hurry to get tied up with anyone. I plan to listen to any and all advice from all ex-pats , filter out the bitterness, and hopefully learn from their mistakes and experiences. Look forward to meeting and having a few and tell some lies to each other.
