What age of Ticas are you looking for? The hotel BW Irazu used to have
either bi-weekly or monthly 'socials'. I don't know if they still have them.
They were held in their large upstairs conference/convention area. I
never attended one, but observed the activity while hanging out at the bar
on the first floor. Most of the chicas seemed to be in the 35 to 50 age range.

Someone (Tman?) also posted about a year ago about 'socials' at the
hotel Barcelo Palacio, which is in the same vicinity as the BW Irazu.

From what I have heard, from a person who has been there, is don't go.

$75.00 to get in, and a small group of chicas mostly middle age and a average "6" or less.

I can not speak from first hand knowledge so YMMV.

this is something I have been looking into, and here is what I have found out so far:

the Irazu singles dances are nice but not well advertised. zman seems to know when they are held.

www.loveme.com has socials for half price for guys who live here. They will invite certain girls if you ask them.

There is a weekly (I think) social at the sportsman's lodge.

There are also singles things advertised in the extra newspaper, I went to one which was half okay but nothing to write home about.

Best thing to do if you are bold is to just approach any girl/woman you find attractive and ask her if she'd like to have coffee or lunch. I'm not that bold but it works for a friend of mine.

I contacted my source about the Hotel Irazu singles dances. The singles club has lost money on the last few dances so as of now no more are scheduled. How they could lose money when so many attend is beyond me. But for 5,000 C a dance and a good buffet meal was a good value. Especially when the Ticas outnumbered the men about 8-1.

The dance places are good, Tobogon, castro, mexico, jazz club etc...
But if you are not a good dancer or good spanish speaker it is difficult. Women everywhere like a bold confident man not afraid of rejection. Even more so here. So if you see a woman who catches your eye or even more important a woman who notices you then go on over and say hi and chat a little. Unlike the states here the chances are small she would ignore you or be rude. The women are everywhere bus stops, supermarkets, mall, walking down the street. When I went to the national theater there were lots of elegant women there alone or in small groups.

I will be in CR for a few weeks and would love to have a companion for the time i'm there and would consider bringing her back to cali with me as my wife. Facing facts, i'm at an age where i'm ripe to start a family and the single life isn't as grand as it once was. I've heard that latin women are incredibly loyal to there man, that they have more or less traditional values when it comes to family.
Do you guys think this would be the best way to find a gal in CR, or are the penpal websites the best route. Hell right now i'm just flying by the seat of my pants intent on just having a good time. But still there's that little voice in the back of my head thats wanting more.

Yes, it's long, but a wealth of info there on the topic.
It seems Colombia might give you a better chance for success from what I've learned...
