I have read what info is here about the place.
Some say no chicas others say chicas with a fee?
I read on another board that they have an apartment as well?
So my real question is does anyone know about the apartment?
Thanks
I ask this cuz I will be in Costa Rica for the month of April and the aprtment that I like is rented, I have a back up but any ideas are welcomed

I took a tour several trips ago and I liked it, ten dollar chica fee, and I may be wrong on that. But, they do have a nice pool, and you can bolt to Poas without too much hassle. Rooms were nice. There were areas where you could step outside your room, inside and smoke. I would consider it, definately had the feel of the Eco=Tourist about it.

I hang out at the Poas and know the owners. They have a nice place, with the old charm and modern conveniences. For a long time they did not allow girls, but in the past year I began seeing guys escorting girls out to the taxi (I suspect that you must do that). Last night I asked a monger who was staying there and he confirmed that they do allow girls, but the fee is $15.00. They seem to have fewer problems with theft than other places.

The one time I stayed at the Santo Tomas, I had the room right off the pool area. Hotel and that room in particular are recommended. BTW, this change in chica policy shows how desperate SJO hoteliers are--I wouldn't be surprised if other hotels have changed their policies, especially the more boutique venues (50 rooms or fewer). Eco-tourist dollars are much more discretionary than our spending.

Interesting......Hotel Santo Tomas now allowing chicas, albeit a $15 fee. The owner [a very nice gentleman] took me on a tour of the place about five years ago. I was impressed with it. He had told me the policy was no chicas at the time, but after sizing me up and assuming I would be discreet, told me he would let the policy slide for me. For whatever reason, I didn't end up staying there. At the time, I did notice the office people and desk clerk giving me a wary eye [you know the look...... "Oh, one of those gringo sex mongers"]. Maybe that was the reason I didn't stay. Definitely a nice place with a nice swimming pool and an impressive looking little restaurant close to the pool.

I wonder too....could the bad US economy be forcing the hotels to relax their chica policies?? :? I think the Hemingway Inn is another example of a relaxed chica policy. Five years ago, they seemed to be more anti-chica/monger than they are today. :)
