I wasn't suggesting that the locals take taxis. I meant that they go home and stay there for the night. They aren't walking around downtown. Obviously, if you have a night job, you have no choice. But most people get off work, get whatever they need and go home. You don't see many people downtown after about 8-9pm. Sorry for the confusion.

Sorry for the 500 words. It appears that we are generally in agreement here.
Is this allowed on CRT? Shouldn't somebody threaten to quit posting? :D :D :D

Most nights the regular people are off the street by 7:30 at the latest.

Last trip in November a couple of times we left the NYB and walked to Joe b's with out a problem for 2 guys and 2 girls we incountered no problems but I wouldn't do it by myself. Mike at Joe b's said he closes around 11 because of the crowd that is around in the area. For all of you who don't know were the bar is it is around the corner from the Presidente.

i still think taxi from dunn inn is best but if you have to walk from presidente to delray at chelle's (corner old rest.) walk past the newsstand and cross the road. seems safer on the new york side. why not find a wingman? i agree a taxi is always best.

You can take a taxi from HDR to presidente, but your taxi would have to go four blocks, left, two blocks left, all the way to 7th Avenue, around the Morazan Par then to Presidente...if you get a robber taxi, plenty of places to get waylaid. Better to catch at the front entrance of the Key Largo. Straight shot two blocks.

Walking, never a problem, 1 block, busy, Chelles is open with taxis and ticos, 1 block down. However, it is panhandle alley, and as you are heading to the Presidente, they see dollars falling out of your pocket.

Having a wingman is good advice.

Say what?

Walk out of the HDR on the Blue Marlin side. That is Avenida 1 Calle 9. Flag down a taxi coming up the street not one of the thiefs who hang by the door. Avenida 1 is one way westbound. Taxi goes 1 block west to calle 7 which is one way southbound. Turns left on calle 7 goes one block to avenida central and there is the Presidente on avenida central and calle 7. Total distance 2 blocks.

Taxistas who hang in front of the Key largo are the same ripoff guys who hang outside the HDR. Avoid them like the plague.

Not to hijack the post, but have these taxista thieves become aware that we know they are so or do they still find a plenty supply of victims? :?: :?:

They still find plenty of potential victims from that group of Gringos who don't know about us--I call them the amateurs. I should hope none who read here fall victim.

As flawed as gooogle tranlator may be, here is the translation..

?I tried to read many of your scripts. However, it is very difficult to do on the basis of inconsistency of thinking and reasoning image. I'm so sorry that your life is not working well for you. It seems obvious that your life was full of suffering. He seems to have been very hard on you, and you are not able to adapt and adjust. I wish you find peace, tranquility, and you can get rid of the demons that appear to haunt you.?

This appears to be a description of a deeply-troubled person or the persona he projects--at a distance, who can tell the difference? And not to subtly smack down anyone--some of the best writing of all varieties in all languages, have come from the self-same deeply troubled. Isn't all writing from the soul, tough to read at some point (especially when it's by a prodigal soul not all the way returned)?
PS--I don't like all of the later Miles Davis but damn sure respect it--same with this subject--because of its surface simplicity but deep-down complexity. You just have to have the background built up and the willingness to do some hard work/deep thinking. And an affinity for the subject in the first place.
