I have noticed that Mexicana Air entered in the Chicago market for $263 round trip (tax & fees included) which is the lowest I have seen from Chi-town. Being a skeptic with a Mexican airline, I checked NYC and they had $263. It seems the best routing is through Cancun, 8am departing flt arriving at 3pm, return 1:45 pm arriving about 10pm. I will be flying Mexicana next week but through Mexico City and will report on the flight. Anybody use Mexicana? Any issues?

Have flown Mexicana a few times without any problems. They allow two bags up to 55lbs each free, serve meals and have a complimentary bar service. :D

I have flown Mexicana from Chicago to CR. Good luck, here is an excerpt from my trip report from that time…

Mexicana Airlines
Do this airline knows the meaning of a schedule? Their departure and arrival time for this airline is just an accidental suggestion that their customer imposed on them. Flight from Chicago to CR – 1 hour late for departure, 2 extra hours added to the already 3 hours of schedule waiting at Mexico City, 1 extra hour stop for an undocumented stop at the Guatemala City airport. My next two trips are already book on Continental.

And this does not include that Mexico City airport is an adventure just to navigate. They won’t tell you what gate will you be leaving until 30 minutes before departure and it could be at the other side of the airport. For the difference of $20-$30, I flight Continental and connect thru Houston. Always on time.

Mexicana just joined the One World alliance yesterday. Maybe that has something to do with the new lower fares. Some legs, especially domestic US, might be code shared with a One World partner.

I have flown Mexicana a few times. Never had any problems and always a good number of hottie flight attendants. The alliance thing always makes me nervous. Good international carriers start partnering with the legacy losers like Delta, United and American and the most basic of service will be lost.

Well, we shall see. If I get stuck in Mex City, I know I can find an appetizing chica pre CR meal. I believe they used to be on Sullivan st and you go to a motel across the street.

None. Took them out of LAX through Mexico City to CR. Top notch service and cute Latina FAs.

Kinda rugged flying into Mex City from SJ but I am a panocha when it comes to turbulence so that is on me. Also, did have to do the double immigration routine but that isnt Mexicana's fault.

Yeah from Chicago-SJO for dec 2-7 it's $209 and including taxes and fees the total comes to $269. From DFW-SJO it's $289 but add the taxes and fees and the total is $569 :x Don't know quite what makes the taxes and fees so expensive from DFW

Because they add a bogus charge of Mexicana Q class coach ticket surcharge.

Fare (A1): MX DFWSJO QRSS fare (rules) , psgr type ADT $129.50
Fare (A2): MX SJODFW QRSS fare (rules) , psgr type ADT $129.50
Tax: Costa Rica Tourism Tax $15.00
Tax: US International Departure Tax $16.10
Tax: US September 11th Security Fee $2.50
Tax: US Passenger Facility Charge $4.50
Tax: USDA APHIS Fee $5.00
Tax: US Immigration Fee $7.00
Tax: US Customs Fee $5.50
Tax: US International Arrival Tax $16.10
Tax: MX YQ surcharge $240.00
Tax: Costa Rica Common Area User Charge $3.34
Tax: Costa Rica Security Fee $2.38
Total for 1 adult passenger: $576.42

A marketing gimmick that allows them to advertise a low ball fare.

At first, the post from ID showed up on my monitor without the Hank quote (it was above). Having read many posts by ID, I know he is very thorough and exact. I was originally skeptical at my rate from Chitown. So, I immediately called Orbitz. As I am complaining, they tell me my fare is only $283 (this trip) and there are no games in Mexico (I says, what is this Mexican surcharge).

I said some thing to the effect of "They should have the homo saucer guy in the commercial ask the chump customer mowing his lawn if he can provide his credit card for the surcharge in order to support Hernandez & Gonzalez, his previous landscapers. During this exchange, I played with the scroll bar and   , it was not meant for my original post. So, I tell Orbitz, "Well, I was double checking. Good job, I was just double checking". I need p$ssy. :D

Thanks for all the input. I am no longer skeptical, just anxious.
