I am a Newbie heading to CR in a few weeks. Is it a good ides to convert dollars to colonnes at the Banco de Jose at the departure area? If so, how much and in what denominations should I ask for? I will be staying for 3 nights at the DR and will be interested in a TLN each night. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Do yourself a favor and read some of the board before asking a question. Not coming down on ya, but trying to give you the heads up. Most of your answeres will be here for everything. Currency question is answered here as well. Whenever I stay at the SL, I carry about a thousand on me and change about $100 a day to have on me depending on the nights activities.

Yes the banco upstairs has very good rate, I'd change around 600.00 and you don't have to ask for any specific denominations, they'll give you mostly 10k's
