My brother and I just completed a 4 day stay in SJO and we stayed at the Morazon for the first time ever. After all of the bad press and negative comments about the Morazon, which goes back to the days of the "Soprano Discount", I have to admit that I was a little skeptical of this place. Now , after staying there, I highly recommend them. The rooms were very spacious, the bathrooms newly renovated with :D GREAT :D hot water and high water pressure, and the beds were extremely comfortable. All of this with a free breakfast for $52 including tax. Ricky Ricardo was very helpful during our stay...he made sure that we were able to get whatever was needed.Believe it or not, one of the desk clerks name is Lucy.

Good to hear, D.G. :) Actually, several longer-term veterans have told how before the Presidente, the Morazan was *the* hotel for mongers. You can't beat its location, less than a half-block from the Hotel del Rey/Blue Marlin, nearly next door to the Key Largo, across the street from the Horseshoe Casino, around the corner from a branch of Banco de Costa rica... Glad to hear it exceeded your expectations.

The first trip I made in 1991 I stayed there and I believe it was called the Hotel Amstel back then. They Key Largo was the place to be and nothing was really going on with the DR at that time. We booked the trip to see off a friend that was getting married and had no idea where the chicas were going to be until we got there and then we found out to our pleasant surprise we were right next door. That trip started one of many. Ahhh the memories, I'll be there next week. Thanks DG for the update. DRD

Don, I had a room there once, They charged me a 10.00 chica fee. It was two chica's at the same time. But it was also a fee.

Did they hit you with a fee?

Also it is good to see that you are still out and about. I wish you a happy birthday as I will miss your next one.

DG,

I've stayed at the Morazon 3 times, and enjoyed it. The last time I stayed there was in April 2005, and the price of a standard room (smallest) was $42/per night including tax (without breakfast).

The "spacious rooms" you stayed in...were they considered standard or deluxe? Based upon your review, it looks like Morazon is still offering decent rooms at very reasonable rates that include breakfast. It's encouraging to know that.

I been staying on and off at the morazan for 5 years....never have I paid a fee for the girls ....and really never heard of anyone being charged (except you)...anyway the morazan is what it is ...a clean, cheap and the best location for our hobby !!! Yes Ricky can be a pain but he remembers my name every time , goes out of his way to make sure everything is fine and once he gets to know you ,,,he a good guy that will share some good saqn jose stories with you...

The place was a great deal when it was 35 a night, now I would say its a "ok" deal with the price going up to 52 , I still think the royal dutch may have the best deal going ...42 a night rooms are clean bathrooms are better than the morazan and I love the bar on the second floor (only a matter of time until I pull a non worker out of the place)

I have a trip coming on june 8 and my 2 wingmen are staying at the sportmens and want me to stay there as well...I called last night and to my surprize they had 1 room for all my dates at $99 a night ,,,,I dont like paying that much but being with my wingmen will be worth the extra cash...

My last two trips I stayed there.Room clean, bed very good for my back, room a good size and a great location. There wasn`t a trap on the sink told the front desk and they had it fixed right away. The only down side is the noise until 2 am if you need to sleep but I like the place. Another plus is all the cab drivers know where it is.

I have stayed there for the last 7 years and have always been pleased, Tip the boys and girls and they will take great care of you.My last trip which was last week I brought back 2 chicas and a new guy at the desk said $25 for the second girl and I said right like he was joking. So the next morning I checked with Pablo and he said the guy charged me but he would take it off since I was a regular guest. I was going to check with Jose to see if the 2 chica policy has changed but didn't get a chance. Can anyone check on this to see if the policy has changed. I will call Angie and make Reservations for the next trip in August and check with her also.

Back in 2000, when I first started staying there, the 'second' chica fee was only $10. I don't know when it supposedly jumped to $25. Buzzfla, I wonder if they attempted to charge Royboy for his 'brief' threesome one afternoon last week?!

I stayed there for one night with Maria Jose (little blonde tica) about a month ago. There was no chica fee for us as far as I remember. The room was clean but the hotel needs a lot of maintenance, everything is broken or looks like it’s been there for ages. The location is the only advantage IMHO.

Part of the charm of the Morazon is that this is the real Costa Rica, the elevator works most of the time, last july fourth weekend the Morazon was without water for 28 hours, only 1 computer and the internet is down half the time. They sent me to the Europa to take a shower :shock They won't cash your travelers checks even if you are a guest. the smoke on the first floor is terrible late at night etc.
