As I've said before, I think the HDR is a shit hole of a place to stay. It's still good advice for a newbie to consider it an option, but that place blows...

I'm coming down in January for business (and pleasure). The hotel will be on the company dime, therefore has to be something to clear the accounting department... But I still want it to be chica friendly and at least walking distance to the DR. Any suggestions?

Thanks for helping out a Newbie...

The most chica-friendly hotel with a "straight" reputation will be the Hotel Presidente. While not exactly "chica-friendly," they tolerate a visit, one girl at a time to your room. The girl cannot be dressed in "hooker-wear." Advantage of the Presidente is that it is
a.) one city block from the Hotel Del Rey and Key Largo
b.) Four blocks or so from Hotel Little Havana (formerly known as Hotel Zona Blue)
c.) 7 blocks from Bar Idem and about the same distance from Pantera Rosa (strip club)

Furthermore, the Presidente offers American style amenities: WIFI, exit tax arranged for guests, tour desk, casino on premises, bar and restaurant on premises, cable TV, elevators etc. etc.

Note: A fellow CRT'er had no trouble clearing his stay at the Sportsmen's Lodge with the accounting folks at his employer (IBM). Too bad you're so close to your travel date, as the SL in my opinion is a better choice.

HTH,

Paul

I'm leaning toward the Presidente, also thinking about the Clarion, which I received info on in another thread. I know I want to try the MP experience, as well as the DR and others. How far is the Presidente from the good MP's?

La Amistad would fall under the same criteria also and no chica fee.

If your trip is on the corporate dime, forget Del Rey. The place is known worldwide by many and if your company has any conservative leanings, your career could be toast.

There are a couple of other choices for hotels that won't attract attention at home. The Sleep Inn is next door to the HDR. While "chica tolerant" they have a hefty chica fee. ($40?) (The fee, not the chcas.) Also, the Holiday Inn is across the park from HDR. "Chica Tolerant" too. I don't recall what the reported fee is at HI. Not many of us stay there.

If you will only be using your room "occasionally" to supplent your MP activities the chica fees may not be a big deal.

Especially if you can hide them in your other hotel charges and get the Co. to pay for them! OOPS! Did I say that outloud? I hope no one from the IRS is reading this!

Well, I guess I'll stay at the Presidente this trip, I know I can get away with that and at least I'll be in the middle of the action, I can take taxi's to the MP's as it looks like their not within walking distance.

I'll be there Jan 11 to Jan 16, if anyone wants to meet for a drink and some education for me, the beers are on me... just don't everyone show up or I'll be broke in no time...
