I am glad that you took my advice and went to Donde Alcides. I have been there many times and the food is always spectacular. Don`t forget to order the grilled pineapple on top of the chuletas.
By the way, did you bring a doggie bag back for the staff at Pucho`s :?: :?:

The bus to take is the Acosta bus and you can get it on calle 7 near ave 10 or 12.

Man, yo' boy Jazzbo can eat a mess of pork chops! Thanks to all for this post. Anybody up for a van trip Friday/ Saturday 3/ 4 October or Monday 6 October? If not, a bus trip sounds good.

I'm in for lunch on any of those days. I'll be at Castillo and don't really make day to day plans, just do whatever day to day. Let me know.

Black,
I was reading the resturant review and came across your post ref Halloween. I arrive Oct 25 and leave Nov 1. If you are in town this week I would like to venture to Pork Chop Hill. I'm staying at the SL. PM me if interested. Sounds like a good place.
Thanks

A group of 11 of us went there last Sunday for lunch. The food is excellent, the prices reasonable, and the service is very good. We ordered 5 extra large pork chop platters, that's 15 huge pork chops, and all that was left were the bones. :D

We took the public bus, the stop is on C7, A10-12, closer to 12. The fare is ¢540. The bus route 157. The bus took about 35-40 minutes (with no traffic). Once you get past Desamparados, you start going up the mountain, a really windy road. Once the bus hits the top and starts going down, the restaurant is near. If you see a peach colored church on the left, pull the chord or press the button to stop. The restaurant is on the right side a couple hundred feet up. There are a lot of parked cars in front. Once you walk in, you will see a huge grill and you will know if you are in the right place.

The return bus is across the street, there is no stop so you need to signal the bus to stop so he doesn't drive by.

We all know it as Donde Alcides, but when I told my inlaws about it, they called it Casa Alcides so I'm not sure what the real name is.

And the expression on the other diners' faces was priceless when they saw 11 gringos walk in. Kind of like "Phuck, the gringos found it, prices are going up soon..."

Great trip, and honestly can say it may have been one of the best Sunday afternoons spent in CR. Grilled pineapple, the queso stuffed plantains and black bean puree was sweet. At least MG didn't try to "borrow" my tortillas at the table  :P :)

Pictures to follow later today.

That meal was simply outstanding! I was so stuffed that I didn't even have dinner in the evening. The bus ride and the great company made it an excellent day trip.

You guys better watch this Mucho Gusto character! He's a little too observant about what other other guys are doing with their pants!!... :P  :P

Yeah sorry I missed this part of the trip...my return to Gringolandia was a bit too early to have been able to make it :( :( Me and the birthday boy and some other guys who are more interested in SEX than FOOD were sessioning at RELAX while you gluttons were busting your buttons! A small consolation I know  But I would've rather gotten out of the gulch and joined you guys...

Thanks O for the very detailed directions....proxima vez!!!
