I used to stay at the Presidente, but have had the same issues everyone talks about the last couple of times so I am looking for a new hotel. I think the Sportsman will be my first choice if I can get in, but does anyone know if there is a guest fee. I am thinking there is not, but want to confirm. If I can't get into the Sportsman I would love some input on alternative selections that are nice and have no guest fee. Any ideas?

La Amistad or Sportmens will be good. See http://www.costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16357

There are no "guest fees" at La Amistad or SL. And IMO, they are both great choices for lodging in SJO.

Don't forget the Castillo as well. Cash discounts for CRT members make even the best rooms in the place affordable. Both the Amistad and the Castillo are about the same distance from the SL, so you'll still be able to enjoy the ambience, good food and fellowship of the SL bar, even if you're not staying at the SL.

I have referred many friends to the Sportsman's Lodge and they have loved their stay.
