i been reading in the fourm and one question came into mind.
it seems like either be zona blue or hdr girls are receiving by dollar instead of colones.
am i wrong? or is this the right case?
i will be coming to cr in sept and just wanted to make sure if there will be needing to change into every dollar into colones

You can typically pay either way. ZB quotes the price in both Colones and Dollars, and the HDR girls usually quote in dollars, but they won't turn away colones. Paying in colones might get you a better deal because of the exchange rate if the girl isn't wise.

The HDR girls can convert dollars into colones, at the current exchange rate, faster then the president of the central bank.

Pay in Colones if you can. It's not much, but if you pay in dollars you will still get colones back in change (if there is any). Usually you end up losing a little bit. I just like to spend colones most of the time. I usually start spending dollars the las couple of days, so I don't end up with a pocket full of colones that I have to convert back or take home. I leave small change for the maids.
