I am looking for best route to SJO without arriving there after dark. Nothing from SD and understand I must go via LAX/PHX etc etc. Any Californians with recommendations? I only ask because I am too friggin lazy to search 200 pages of search results.

taca, aa and united all fly direct out of lax. i seem to find the best deals on travelocity. cheapest flights right now appear to be min one stop which makes it 9 hours instead of 5 1/2.

My flight from CR last night on TACA left CR 5:45 PM, stopped in El Salvador and arrived in LAX 11:45 PM.

Taca has direct flights from LAX to SJO. That's kind of nice. It's hard to get a flight that arrives before dark, but there's a direct LACSA flight that leaves LAX at 2am and arrives in SJO at 9am. but the price isn't that great.

Continental has a flight for about $350 that connects in Houston, leaves at 12 midnight, gets into SJO at noon.

There's lots of tools you can use to search through flights that make thigns a lot easier. Kayak.com for instance allows you to adjust a slider for your takeoff or arrival times..

I've taken the 1;00 - 2:00 a.m. TACA flight out of LAX which is direct non-stop and gets you into San Jose around 8:30 in the a.m. and I've taken that flight about 5 times and it works perfect. My last flight (in December) cost me $254.00 but now it loks like the best is around $700 or so.

Im from So Cal as well, AA has a red eye out of LA that I like because I get in at 7AM in the morning with out a day wasted traveling.

Another thing to consider when flying Taca is Business class. If the coach is $700 something the business class is only $100 more most of the time. It fills up fast as there are only 16 business class seats on those flights from LAX.

I just found one from LAX thru IAH 21-25 Aug. for $469 RT taxes included. Would you believe that if you lived in Houston the same trip (sans the LAX RT connection) $656!!!!!!!

Really wierd fare structure here. From Newark and ORD same thing less than if you lived in Houston!!!!!!!
