Fire destroy's landmark hotel

By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

A fire that broke out after midnight destroys the famous Hotel Del Rey and the casino next door.
The fire apparently started at the Colonial Casino then spread to other buildings on the block.

There were no immediate reports of any deaths but many were suffering from smoke inhalation and had to be taken to the hospital.
The fire department was totally incapable to handle such a large blaze as told by one owner of the hotel.
There were no comments by San Jose officials.

There were hundreds of worried and angry people in the street some wearing nothing more than a blanket.

The fire consumed most of the block and the heat, fire and smoke could be seen for miles.
It took firemen all night to extinguish the blaze and smoke was still coming out at 6:00 am
One employee said " this is the worst thing that she has ever seen and does not know what she is going to do."

It's a complete loss but we will rebuild said the owner.

Actually I was recently in Moab, the Grand Canyon, Tucson and El Paso. In 10 ten days I'll be hiking from the Amistad to ZB! :D :D :D :D
