I just got one today. Can the cost of gas and air travel be having an impact or because there are now more places to stay?

Is it just an invitation or some kind of discount ?.............currently booked for 7/10 with a confirmation email so if it's a discount guess I will not be getting same email.

Just an email saying we have rooms. No discount.

Got mine today too. No offer of a discount... I still wish they would get on board and offer VIP's a discount of some sort (NO CHICA FEE). Granted I dont think they rely on CRT as much as SL or ZB. Even tho every thread written on here tells the FNG's to stay there the 1st time. I stayed there 1st time because of CRT.

Say what you will about "The Rey", it is still the big pink rock that everything else revolves around. Although I still come to Costa Rica fairly frequently, I no longer spend a lot of time in the gulch. That said, I would feel terrible if the law changed or if anything else threatened the existance of this historic place. It is good that they are only emailing to say...hey guys, we got room for you.

As I understand it, Del Rey has been sold or is in the process of being sold.So perhaps the new owners are trying to fill up the rooms.For those of you that recieved the email, maybe an email back that you would consider staying there were it not for the chica fees would help.Maybe we could see a change for the better in the Del Rey.

As nice as that would be, I doubt they are about to drop a serious revenue builder.

Think how many guys staying there grab 1-2-3 girls a day. All at 10$ a pop. Not to mention you have rooms that havent been renovated forever, its a pure money maker.

Im actually surprised the Presidente still offers their rate, as they have seemed to put themselves in a situation where they can get by on their own, but perhaps they are holding onto that relation as a security blanket. If the economy takes a hit, and all the backpackers cant make it, it would probably be nice to know you at least have a monger fleet roaming the town looking for a room.

I seriously doubt that the DR has been,or is about to be sold. I once talked to Greg about offering some sort of enhancement to VIPs of CRT.His response was they were looking for ways to make LESS MONEY. I think what we have here is just some intelligent, zero cost, "rainy season" marketing.

In the 5 years I have lived here I have heard that the HDR was sold about twice a year.

Thats almost as often as Bill Bullock use to sell a 50% interest in the Park Hotel to some gringo newbie.
