I have a a 90 day absence from SJO. My longest in 3 years. I have not seen any updates on the the horse shoe casino other than the naked Black Jack tourney. Could someone take a moment to describe what it is like now? I assume it is completely remodeled?

It's the same size but they did update the decor. New ceiling and carpet and they finally built restrooms downstairs next to the cashier. They moved some slot machines around and moved the roulette from one side of the room to the other. That was about it.

I never made it upstairs.

Wit.....I think you are being a bit harsh with the Horseshoe. The 2nd floor is very nicely done,as is the first floor with most everything new. (tables, chairs, carpeting, restrooms, lighting, bars both upstairs and downstairs)

VB,
I was only in there once but now that you mention it the tables were new. I guess I was disappointed about the lack of hot, young ladies I was led to believe would be there at my beck and call.

As I mentioned, I never made it upstairs. I'll take a closer look this weekend.

Then am I to understand the hot girls dancing and possible rooms onsite with available girls seems to have all been a hope?

If so a shame. I had high hopes. I will be there in a little more than a week to check it out.

I stopped in for a tour last week. Very nicely done on the remodeling. No resemblence to the original Horseshoe. They had a couple hotties standing about...and I was shown the "massage" rooms which I interpret will be available for private enterprise. Just off the strip bar area. Apparently this bar and club are still waiting for licensing approvals for the extra entertainment offerings. The manager told me the poker tables would be moved down to the 2nd level room behind the new strip club bar. Hope noise isnt too big a factor if thats the case.

Hope they can get all their offerings up and running which should make them a unique casino/club combo in the market.

I was playing one of the card games below and he sat down at the table and played. He seemed nice enough I did not detect much attitude but maybe it was a good day for him. However for being an owner he was not doing the things an owner host should do when you have a new casino. For example when I was playing at the same table he did not offer me any high end drinks as other owners have for me in the past maybe that is a fluke at other places but I come to expect it if the owner sits down to gamble at the same table as me right or wrong. But he seemed ok nothing really bad about him just not quite the host one should be when opening a new casino.
What they need is to be more liberal with the free high end booze and hosting to get a clientel that is loyal at least initially during the first year, then you can put the screws on later if one likes. Alot of those games rake in mucho coin due to great house odds so pulling out the good alcohol is no big deal in the big picture drops in the bucket but the gesture makes the guest feel appreciated and thats what counts, not to mention drunk gamblers spend and lose more money is just an age old fact.

I want to go there and gamble and see the girls. My son just turned 18 and I think he should go and see the show. I want to meet the nice new guy who you describe.

I received a private message from one of the owners. He told me they are addressing my issues in a meeting tonight. He was very nice and assured me he will correct any problems. He seemed sincere. My earlier post was a little harsh but I was really pissed off over the issues and I had a few cocktails before i signed on.

Jeez, guys lighten up! It looks to me like someone’s got an axe to grind or a hidden agenda here. Anyone can have a bad day or two and you guys are saying the casino sucks because you don’t like the way a guy looks or acted one night.

I doubt that it’s easy running a casino in Costa Rica, but I can tell you that since the new owner took over, the Horseshoe is far and away the best casino in downtown San Jose.

The girls are cute and they don’t hustle you when they sit with you while you gamble, the dealers are very friendly, they don’t get upset when you win and they don’t try to cheat you.

I’m not naming any names, but try saying that about a certain casino that’s just across the street.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing maybe a partner or a pissed off employee, because the guy is not that bad.....hes not the most jovial fella nor is he too generous but he didnt seem to warrant the bashing.

As many of you know, I am one of the owners of the Horseshoe. First of all, I like to tell you that we really appreciate the feedback we get on Costa Rica Ticas.
I’ll be the first to say that being a casino owner in Costa Rica is not what I ever imagined. Every day is a new adventure and every day brings new and unique problems. Between dealing with employee issues, construction problems and trying to decipher the ever-changing laws, it can be very, very trying.
We do everything we possibly can to keep up with our motto, “the friendliest casino in Costa Rica” and I assure you, we do not condone attitudes of any kind. We want our players to have a great experience, but we also realize that sometimes players lose and when they do, they get upset and they may look for someone to be angry at.
Our ownership group is going to have a conference call today addressing many issues, including this one. We want you all to have a great experience at the Horseshoe and if for any reason you feel you were not treated in a manner that you were happy with, please let me know immediately. I can be reached at Gino@oilcanman.com.

Thanks to whoever posted the photos of the Labor Day weekend party at the Horseshoe. What's the 411 regarding dancers? Are the dreams of a casino with dancers becoming a reality? Any new information would be appreciated.
