You are correct in that if you have the game, speak some espanol, and are VERY VERY VERY LUCKY, you can on occasion find a chica that is not hard up for money at that moment and that really "digs" you for some reason who will ,if you spend enough time , go with you for free. In 12 years, I have had it happen 3 times. One was a 'first time in the REY chica that I think I just coned into it some how; one was a 'one chica wanting to get even with another chica' situation; and the other was a case of very volital chemistry(my ex novia). The first 2, I was never with agani, so yep they were escentually freebes. Mi novia never asked for money for sex, but she cost me mucho dinero in the long run, thou actually no more than I would have paid for the same amount of sexo.

BUT WORKING CHICAS are NOT in the busines to give it away, so do not count on it happening very often.

I was about to post but T-man summed up what I wanted to say. Very true. If you do well with gringas you will do well almost anywhere except perhaps in muslim cultures.
Evolution has wired us the same the world over but of course culture modifies certain tendencies.

I have to say that my experiences here have been very different. Moved to CR 6 years ago and was actually married at the time. My wife eventually decided not to join me and so left me to have the time of my life.
Have dated far more non working girls than working girls( though I have had my share of those as well)
Tico girls love foreigners, they also appear to believe that an older guy is more likely to be financially secure and less likely to spend all their money partying.

So yes at times it is about the money, but the majority of my girlfriends have never asked for anything (I am going to exclude a taxi fare home from this)

One girl explained to me at length, that she would never date a tico. This one was intelligent, had her own opinions on things and loved the idea that with a European she was free to express herself. Ticos (according to her) are simply arrogant and view the girls as potential mothers for their offspring and not as people in their own rights.
I have followed up on this with at least a dozen other chicas who have told me much the same thing.

Picking up local girls is incredibly easy, many times the girl will approach you, or smile enough encouragement for you to start a conversation with ease.

You will be amazed at how many chicas work (pro and normal girls) to support a boyfriend who then spends most of his nights out drinking at her expense. With a foreigner she does not have that concern, and can even look forward to being taken out for diner without being expected to pay herself.

BTW I am in my early 40’s of average appearance (at best) but I am slim. This appears to help.

The culture here is very inquisitive and the girls do enjoy striking up a conversation and practising their English. Although my Spanish is now reasonable, it was not always thus, so good Spanish is not that important. What is important is to try.

As to how to pick them up; I have found that collecting telephone numbers on night one and either arranging to go to diner (or phoning the next day to arrange) works 100% of the time for sex on the second date. Not trying to bed them the first night earns many many points which can be cashed in later.

Have I been asked to help the sick grandmother, mother, sister, and in one crary case the family dog, with their operations… of course, but usually not until the 3rd 4th or 5th date, by which time it is often time to move on anyway. That said most NEVER ask for money, though I have been taken shopping to by things on several occasions. Usually these are small items like a new T shirt or special Shampoo.

Couple of hints (at least they worked for me)
1. try to go to the same bar a couple of times. Once the girls see you a second or third time they are far more likely to approach you, and start a conversation.
2 Loose the shorts. Girls don’t expect suits and ties, but here in San Jose the general belief is that shorts are for the beach only.
3 Treat them with respect at all times. The straight girls are slightly embarrassed by the number of working girls, and you should never treat them as though they are the same.

If in doubt ask early in the conversation where they work. If they are working girls they will almost certainly tell you that they work in the Del Rey. Easy to walk away at that point.

And finally one pick up technique that has worked every time I have used it. I discovered this by accident one night in Touch (The bar/ disco under the Mall San Pedro.) Was ordering a beer at the bar whist two trannies were smiling and waving at me from a few feet away. Within seconds four georgious Ticas had grabbed me and were hauling me away from the bar while trying to explain to me that these were not really girls. Two of them spent the next 24 hours with me.

Just to prove that what I said above about second dates can be improved on.

Curiosity got me and I tried the same thing a week or so later. Same result (well only one girl that time) and I have used this several times since.

So dating non working girls is easy, you just need a little time and patience.
Why not hit the Cuartel on a Monday night, organize a couple of dates for later in the week and head back to the DR of KL for your action that night.
Another poster mentioned Ladies nights…. For explanation, most of the big disco bars have a ladies night. Typically these are ladies only from 9 til 10 at night. The girls are treated to strippers and free drinks. Then at 10 or so the guys can come in… well if you have ever entered a bar full of drunk horny women and been one of only two or three guys you will now what paradise is all about.

Yes Lived in Los Yoses for about 3 years now.. down the road a bit from le Chandelier.
Nice quiet spot, but close enough to all the action.... But now happiy living with my Novia and our baby, so my adventures are much more limited than before

Lately I have been beating my head in that for my next vacation I chose to spend it in the U.S. to go back home to see the family which is fine but the other 8 days in central Texas (San Antonio and Austin) which I haven't spent much time since graduation college. Out of boredom or "You know you are a monger when..." I search for casas in San Antonio and up pops this post instead. I’m going to take a little different approach here but it seems that you are going to an Italian restaurant and asking for tacos. Hear me out, we go to CR because we P4P. Is easy, good fantasy, no attachments. If you do not want to deal with strippers or working girls, stay in the US, 25% of the population is Hispanic. You can save the airfare and hotel and meet non-working girls here in the US.

But to have a change of pace and flight thousands of miles to a different country without knowing the language, culture, limited time and expect to be successful is being a bit naïve. Good luck, but I would employ my efforts to a greater GFE with a P4P chica than to try to find a diamond in CR. Could it happen, yes. There have been people that spend their last $100 in the lottery and win. I think you have the same odds. My $.02.
