In 1996 Jay the bartender at HDR told me about Hotel Plinio at Quepos.

I have stayed there many times since.

They have 3 story suites in the jungle overlooking the ocean for $110 (negotiable).

You are literally in a giant 3 story treehouse with exotic wood floors and walls, huge trees supporting the whole structure. the whole front is screened in.

You are in the jungle with tree frogs, sloths, exotic flowers just inches away.

Excellent pool

First class restaurant.

I've stayed at the Hotel California with a gringa friend. The rooms are beautiful with balconies and high ceilings. Bathrooms are the typical white stucco sort of thing, but very serviceable. The restaurant is so-so, but the service is excellent, and they will run breakfast (included with the roomm) up to you in the morning if you ask. Tip graciously.

Nice little pool, too. I paid $90.00/night in '04 during green season.
