If you are coming out from ZB towards Sportsman's Lodge, it will be on the same foot of ZB, may be one block from ZB. Tel 257 4756. I had a very nice chicken BBQ meal, pollo Brasas, for only 2800 colon. The food came with a bowl of vegetable soup, peice of bread, two big pieces of BBQ chicken, rice, french fries and salad. I liked the food and reccomend it. While I was talking to BKTuna , even he did not know about this place. So I thought may be this ifo will be helpful for some budget minded people.

Have heard the name but never seen the place, it is on Prolijo's map ( http://www.whorticulture.info/ password in vip section) on the south side of Ave. 7 just east of Calle 7... 1 block S. of NF. A side street many of us have probably walked by 100 times on the way to NF o ZB.

It's just west of the INS building, kind of behind the Holiday Inn. The place is packed at lunch time with workers from INS. It appears to be very popular.

There is a nice little soda, Soda Amon, a block North (toward Av 9). Good food & low prices too. Same thing. Packed at lunch time with workers from the nearby offices.

There appears to be some confusion here. The Criolitto that Pseudogene mentioned is on Ave. 9, almost next door to ZB; take a right out of ZB and there it is. Never noticed before, and now was wondering about the place. It looks like there's also a place by that name on Ave. 7 as marked on the map; never walked by that spot so thought it was an error.

Sounds like the old "Bruce's Breakfast" place, if it's diagonal from ZB on Ave. 9.

Its on the same side of the street as ZB, (rarely open past 3 PM) just east of ZB on Avenida 9 there is a a tiny little soda (blink and you miss it ) named the same (and BTW owned by the same family) as the one on Avenida 7 across the street and 25 meters west of the INS bldg.

Paco, no, I think that was in a different spot than this place. This Criolitta is right next to ZB; coming down from the SL or Amistad (Amistad in my case, I've been doing it a lot) on the left side of Ave. 9, it's the very last door (I think) you come to before making the turn for ZB. There's a small neon sign, and the front looks to be a small store. I might have actually noticed it on earlier trips, but I definitely spotted it this trip since I stayed at the ZB for three nights, and did a little scouting of the area.

Guys, I have eaten in both Criollita Restaurants this week. the little one 50 feet from the corner of ZB is great and cheap. However you should know that they have two menus. The English menu has higher prices than the Spanish menu.

The larger La Criollita up near the INS bldg and near the Namu Art gallery is VERY nice. Great food, ultra clean, nice artwork on the walls and a great little sheltered outdoor bar in their courtyard. They have a good wine selection and a chica would love to be taken there.

The black bean soup(sopa negra) with an egg and rise is outstanding. Chicas do love the location by the INS building and they can't ding you for too much money as nothing on the menu is much more than $10.

I've been a customer for about 5 years. They do a great lunch special. One of the favorites for those who like local cuisine is the Lengua special. I think it is on Thursday, but you'll have to check. I hesitate to call it tongue because of the typical juvenile response. Lengua en Salsa is often one of the best things on a CR menu, but then I like mondongo, higado and garbanzos with pigs feet. Even the squeamish Gringo should try the beef tongue though.

You know, L almost ordered the lengua, but then I remembered that cows lick their butts with that same tongue Perhaps next week I wil try it. I eat most things anyway.
