DG,
Sorry to hear about your situation with AA. I fly AA to CR almost monthly, and I’ve never had anything close to that happen to me. But I know that they’re certainly capable of it. I am flying Miami - SJO in 6 days, and I’m hoping for an un-eventful flight. I’ve always had good luck flying with AA, and I hope that continues.
But since we’re talking about problems with AA, I thought I’d throw this out there. This morning I found out about an AA policy change, and it really sucks, especially if you’re an AA frequent flyer:
In the past, if you booked a round trip ticket with AA - and then the price on that itinerary dropped – normally they would always credit you for the difference in price. I know of several CRT members who had taken advantage of this policy in the past. Personally, I’ve gotten credits on cheaper flights numerous times over the past several years.
Well…. things have changed, and they’ve implemented new guidelines to their policy. If you book your flights (and the price drops at a later date) they will
ONLY refund you the difference in price, up and above the “ticket change fee†(which usually is around $100.) In other words, if you book a round trip ticket for $400, and then (at a later date) you see it advertised for $270, they’ll only refund you $30, which is the price difference (after the change fee is applied). So basically, if the price on your flight drops $100 or less, you’re out of luck with a refund! And if the price drops more than $100, you have to eat the 1st $100, and you’re entitled to the balance of the difference.
But you’d have to completely re-book your itinerary.
On Tuesday
(JUST TWO DAYS AGO) I booked another flight to CR. I am flying Miami to Liberia (Daniel Obuber Quiros Airport - Guanacaste) at the end of February. I have a real estate closing, so I am flying directly into Liberia Airport. This morning, just for the hell of it, I checked the flight prices, and they’d dropped $65 over the past couple days. Naturally, I called AA for my credit. This is where the woman explained the new policy to me.
Anyone want to pool our money and buy a private jet ?!?
