For Souvenior shopping..I've always like to go to a little area called Moravia where there are literally 15 to 20 souvenir shops right next to each other. Here you can find all kinds of souvenirs from Costa Rica to take back for friends and families. You can also bargain with the shop attendants for better prices. Most of the shops here will take dollars and colones. It is unbelievable how much stuffs they got in all of these shops. If you have time..check out Moravia.
