Could anyone confirm what type of TV set up is in the room? Are there English speaking channels such as ABC, NBC, the usual, etc.?

I stayed in a nice two bed standard room last trip at the Clarion. TV was 25 or 27 inch (not LCD or Plasma) and cable had, if I recall, Denver affiliates of the major networks. ESPN was in Spanish I think; there are other English speaking channels though. I nursed a hangover in bed one morning watching three seasons old Dancing with the Stars. Had never seen the show or knew who John O'Hurley was before. Other than that though, I have never really watched tv in San Jose but I think the cable is the same as the HDR. :?:

Couple more questions if I could...What's the difference between the Standard room for $70/night and the Jr. Suite for $90/night and the Jr. Master & Master? Is it possible to get a non smoking King bed as a Standard room? Lastly...are refridgerators in the rooms?

Thanks much.

Sorry I don't know. I have a jr suite and a standard room both booked for my next trip, for me and a pal, so I can report on or after 2/4/08. When I stayed there LD weekend Nixon's allotment of rooms was taken and I booked through the choicehotels website. Originally it was $104.74 but I cancelled and rebooked through their website (split a room with The Bearded Clam for a night and he is a AAA member) for $88.78 by selecting the AAA rate. I just checked my email confirmation and it indicates that both rates I quote include tax for the night of 9/1/07.
With regards to specifics on the rooms: if you email Nixon at the address provided on this site, he is very helpful and accomodating to the membership. I think their website also will give you descrptions of the various rooms.
Having only stayed at the HDR and the Clarion, I would say the Clarion's room is much nicer. But I would concede I did seek accomodations at the HDR, to no avail for my next trip.

there is a refrigerator but it is a mini bar. It ended up costing me about 1/3 of the bill when I checked out.

Thanks for the all the info Mia...I have an email in to Nixon now and am looking forward to hearing back from him. I'm heading down in March so hopefully his allotment of rooms will still be available.

When you say it cost you 1/3 the bill when you checked out what do you mean by that? I assume you raided it alot...Lol.

More likely scenario, Raided by Chicas......

To answer the above question...

I have stayed in regular room (No mini bar), Jr Suite (Mini Bar and Couch w/table area) slightly larger than regular room and the 2 BR Suite(Living Room with large TV, Bar area w/fridge) all nice rooms and would stay again.

just spent a week in the jr suite.... actually liked it a little bit better than the Presidente...no jacuzzi though.... both bars were great to hang out at, and the breakfast was awesome..... got rip roaring drunk with one of the employess after her shift at a cuban bar a couple of blocks up.....she wanted to come back to my room and party, but my girl would have nothing to do with it ( on a side note, the employee got fired the next day, because she missed her 5a.m. shift, don't know how, we drank our last guaro at 4:30!) far enough away from the gulch for a little quite, but close enough for a nice walk.

The Junior suite rate is now $100 for CRT VIP's. Apparently there has been a recent increase of $10 per night per Nixon. Not sure if this applies to the regular rooms.
