My subject title sounds like a lounge act. Anyway....

Does anybody have experience visiting Montezuma and nearby environs on the southern tip of Nicoya peninsula? I hear it's a cool little beach town. I also want to head south of Jaco (which most people think is a good place to avoid) to Quepos and the Manuel Antonio park. Any suggestions?

Both are great beach areas, but alot more life and things to do in Quepos/MA, my favorite Pacifico destination.

I discuss Manuel Antonio a bit in my super bowl week trip report. I recommend it if you bring a chica.
CiaoCiao

Took the Marlin Delrey out for a ride (i say ride because we didn't catch shit fishing) one day last year and after a couple small fish caught, we decided to go into Montezuma...Nice little place but we came ashore around 1:00 in the afternoon and even after a little lunch, the walk to the waterfalls, a swim under the falls, we were back on the boat by 5:00. Nice....peaceful...but in my opinion, its only a day trip.

DGD - any specific recommendations about places to stay, etc in Manuel Antonio?

CiaoCiao -- good info on your Super Bowl report. this will be only my second trip to CR, so I don't have any experience taking a chica on an overnight.

KeyLargoAndy -- if I left SJ in the morning and took Interbus to Puntarenas, then ferry over to Nicoya penninsula and bus to Montezuma, could I really make a day trip out of it and back in SJ?

It's not a day trip, you'll want to spend at least one night (probably more). Montezuma is supposed to be one of the nicest areas in CR. I'm going in May for the first time.

I like the only two that are actually on the beach, Verde Mar and Karahe. Both have websites. Verde Mar has little kitchens. I'd say both were American 2.5 stars, maybe 2.75, but very nice, reasonable and right on th beach. Lots of nice hotels there but most of them are up on the hill and too far too walk to the beach. Just my preference. Kitchen is nice because you can load up on snacks and beer and coke at the groceria downtown. There a couple of really cool beach restaraunts right in front of Verde Mar, May Y Sambra and Cafe Baru--not fancy but good and right in the sand. Very convenient. You'll love MA.

Sorry for the confusion....I am just saying that its a small little area.

And when I say day trip, I don't mean from the gulch....Once your on the coast somewhere, it was a decent day trip by boat. If you are leaving from San Jose, you really should stay for the night somewhere.

just my thoughts

Tiki,

Sounds as though you like the beach, you also mentioned MA National park as a stop on your trip. Let me suggest MA Hotel, located next to the park, and the beach is out your front door.

Hotel is ok, clean, all the basics, cable tv, computer in lobby, chica friendly. good beds as well. The MA night life is less than 100 yds away and if you want to head to Quepos, the bus passes by the front of the hotel every 15 mins approx. but, it does stop running at 10 or 11 pm cab is 1000 colones to/fro quepos.

If you go to the beach, walk down to the far right (N) the Boyz will love checking out your girl!
