I am staying in CR for 3 weeks and Hotel Aranjuez also has apartments. They don't show their apartments on their website, just their hotel. Can anyone give me any feedback on their apartments? They no doubt have great rates. I am choosing between them and Casa Vino. Thanks

The Hotel Aranjuez has always intrigued me. It has always struck me as a decent quality yet reasonably priced place to stay. But I have also had the impression it was more of an ecotourist option than a place for guys like us. Has anyone stayed there and brought chicas back? I just somehow get the feel that the Casa Vino would be a bit more chica friendly, but admit that I could be way off base since I haven't actually stayed at either. I can tell you that from a mongering perspective the Casa Vino is MUCH better located being in the heart of the Amon Plaza, Zona Blue NEw Fantasy area. The Aranjuez is several blocks EAST of the Sportsmens which is already on the edge of "our zone".

I know for a fact the Hotel is not chica freindly as I stayed there my first trip to San Jose the first part of trip. I would ask if bringing someone back to Apartments is ok.I would be curious to know more about apartments if chica freindly. I liked the place except of that reason. Had a nice breakfast included in room price.rbc100

The apartments are separate from the hotel, though close by. You go through a good security office to get in. If you rent it, it is your apartment (or room in the hotel for that matter) – how you handle this fact is up to you. Checking it out I didn’t see any red flags. No I haven’t stayed at either the hotel or apartments but I am the same distance from the ‘gulch’ and it is not a burden for me. It is minutes on foot to Sportsmans’, sometimes longer by cab.

I sorta started this and I put more information in the VIP section about the apartments. These apartments are executive quality at a bargain IMHO. If you aren’t tuned in enough to handle the issue of bringing a friend to your own space, you are better off residing at the Del Rey and pay ten bucks to go up the elevator. Simple as that and it is not for everyone especially the inexperienced.

Novice, I didn't mean to suggest that walking from the Aranjuez neighborhood to the Amon/Otoya area was a burden, but all other things being equal wouldn't you prefer to be closer to the action where you can pop out at any time for a quickie. In the Amon area you have 2 top-notch MP's and several very well reviewed restaurants. What do you have in Barrio Aranjuezt? Granted its just a few minutes further away but it is even further away than that to the Gulch which is on the other side of Barrio Otoya from Barrio Aranjuez. (C19 A13 places it 1km from the HDR or nearly twice as far as the SL which is already farther than some people want to walk at night)

Secondly, comparing bringing a chica back to an apartment to bringing up to a room in the HDR is completely disingenuous and unfair. We ALL recognize what a rip-off the HDR is. Why not compare it to the types of REALLY chica friendly hotels that most of us stay at like the SL, Castillo etc.? No chica fees at any of those, no hassles at all in fact, not even just a dirty look. That dirty look might not stop you from bringing a chica past Aranjuez security (or maybe it might) but there are other advantages to having to check a chica in, such as what greater recourse you might have in the unfortunate event that she rips you off (less likely to happen if her name is recorded down at the front desk along with their keeping her cedula until you're ready to leave with her).

However, I'll readily admit the part about apartments sometimes being different from the hotels they're associated with is a valid one. A good example and one De_2 might also want to check out is Rincon de la Vieja, which is definitely very chica unfriendly as a hotel but whose apartment has been well reviewed for mongering. And the Rincon is just 1 block past the Sportsmens making it just that much closer to everything else than the place over in Barrio Aranjuez.

Last question, where is everyone getting this info about a Hotel Aranjuez apartment? I don't see anything about it on their website.

I just happen across it in my search for the perfect digs. They are brand new. I tried to keep it one of our little secrets but...

To me - waay less on the 'outskirts' than say - Vista Linda or Casa Conde. I did qualify it by saying it was not for everyone etc.

The 'gultch' is by necessity - expanding verdad?.

Okay we've got pricing, but has anyone actually stayed there and brought chicas back? De emailed them and asked if their apartments were chica friendly. The response he got word for word was "not really, we follow the law on this subject". Add that to the attitude that we know exists at their hotel across the street and it doesn't sound like they're exactly laying out the welcome mat for our kind. Maybe you don't mind saying "F*** you and up yours" and just bringing chicas back anyway and maybe or maybe not you'll get shit from security when you do, but I personally don't need to go where I'm not wanted or care to give those people any of my business. Isn't that why many guys stopped staying at the Prez? Also I don't buy the if I rent it I can do anything I want in there argument. You could just as easily apply that logic to renting a hotel room as an apartment and we all know that hotel's come with restrictions. Many business's that cater to a larger audience than just us mongers have to consider their other guests and often times other guests don't like to be confronted with what they consider seedy practices in the places that they are staying. That is why the Prez felt they had to tone down our actions to appease their eco-tourist guests. At the very least I would hope anyone bringing chicas back to places such as these would behave discretely.

I agree that we're still not talking a about a great distance for this place, though closer is always better. It certainly is closer than either the Vista Linda or the Casa Conde. However, I believe it isn't any closer than the Sudamer. The Sudamer is in not as nice an area, but is a bit less expensive than the Aranjuez Apartments and is definitely chica friendly

Just to clarify, neither the Hotel Aranjuez or its accompanying apartments are chica friendly. I have stayed at the Hotel, which I thought was very nice, and I recently inquired about the apartments for my upcoming trip. Regarding my question about "female guests," I received this answer:

"At the Apartamentos Aranjuez we support the Costa Rican law against sex exploitation."

First of all, what exactly is the law against sex exploitation? Curious about the contents.

Secondly, the above in no way reflects negative feelings about the Aranjuez. As I said, I've stayed there and thought it was great (and only $30 a night!) and would consider staying there again. It's not chica friendly and it requires a (relatively short) cab ride to the gulch, but it certainly is a good option for people who just want to have fun at the MP's and not worry about the hassles involved in bringing a chica to the room (which I'm sure has its pluses, too).

I would have responded, "I don't plan on exploiting anybody. I just want to rent some pu*sy."


I spent 10 days in Aranjuez Apartments in February. I will post some pics soon. I'm already booked there for my next 2 trips.

I was very satisfied with my stay, but like the above statement says, IT'S NOT FOR EVERYONE. True mongers beware, from what I saw they are not chica friendly. I did not see one working girl being brought in the whole time. Most of the people who stay there are longer-term rentals, business travelers and those looking for a tree to hug. It works for me because I do not bring chicas back, only my girl. In the evenings, there is a guy downstairs at the desk, and he'd undoubtedly report you to the office and you'd probably have some "esssplainin to do the next day"

That's what I was saying, but I think that's just their way of saying "No hookers allowed".

I stayed at the Aranjuez for five nights back in December of 2005 and never had any issues bringing in one, or two Ticas back to my room. I did not pay any additional "Tica" fees. I stayed in room 23 which offered a large room with queen size bed and bathroom with shower. The bed was not very comfortable (not many hotel beds are in SJ), but it served its purpose and saved me a lot of colones.
