Men,
I need some help. I am looking for something to do outside of SJ, but that is not far away (within 1.5-2 hour drive each way). I know there are the volcanoes, the different tours (4-in-1, etc), ATV, canopy...

What is fun to do within that distance from SJ? I've done that ATV and canopy thing, and I wouldn't mind doing them again, but I'd prefer something new. Which is the closest volcano or hot springs?

BTW, I am looking for a 1 day thing, not an overnight trip.

THANKS

The Hotel Presidente can send you a list with the schedule and costs of the trips offered. I am doing the rafting on the Pacuare River on the 14th.

Volcanoes, there is Irazu, and then Poas.

I have a pic of the Irazu entrance in the vip tourist pic gallery.

The thing about going to a volcano is visibility. Poas is the closest, on the why there they tell you that you are going to the cloud forest. 80% of the time visibility is so bad you cannot see a thing, 15% of the you can see a little and 5 % of the time visibility is good.
When we went over the mountains, the fog was so bad I do not know how the driver could see anything. My attitude was you could not be mad if its fogy in the cloud forest but it would of bin nice if they told you 95% of the time it is not worth going, before I booked it. Although we got lucky when we got there, visibility was great. The whether in CR can be vary different just a few miles away? I think the best time to do guided tours is in February or early march.

The La Paz waterfall tour is great. It is a half-day tour. You get to see some Absolutely beautiful scenery. And you are back in time for lunch, a trip to ZB and a nap before happy hour. Weather is not a big issue.

Thrity minutes west of SJ in La Garita is a place called Zoo Ave. It is a beautiful botanical park/zoo. Also, Sarchi is in that direction. Sarchi is the town where they sell all of the costa Rica handicarfts. There is a nice open air restaurant at the edge of town. It is on a hillside with a beautiful view of gardens and a duck pond.
