Fellas,
I have been a paying member of this forum since I found out that I would be going to CR on business. June 1-3 are business and 4-6 are for pleasure. My business takes me to the eastern part of the city (near the language school), where there are not many hotels. It would probably be good for me to stay in that part of the city while conducting business. For the second half of my stay, I will be mongering, so I do not want to stay in eastern San Jose. Can you suggest a happy medium? Can you suggest an upscale hotel close to downtown, one that is tica friendly, but will not scream "sex tourism" to my business associates, who will know where I am staying? I am willing to pay $150/night. On a slightly different subject, if I were to stay, for example, at the Marriott, are there clubs close by where a girl might be found?
Thanks for your help amigos. If I have been less than clear in my inquiry, I will be glad to clarify.

I stayed at the Marriott on my last trip. (I have a lot of reward point so the stay was free) it is truly the best hotel in SJ. Having said that it is really not a mongering hotel all thought there is no chica fee. You can bring a girl back to the hotel with out to much trouble, if she is dressed well. You will have to sine her in and take reasonability for her. I saw a couple of other guys with chica`s by the pool.

The Marriott is located near the airport and is not close to anything. It’s a half hour drive in to downtown SJ in good traffic. They do have a lot of taxis that are assigned just to the Marriott. All you have to do tell the bell man and in about 15 second you will be on your way. They charge a flat fee of 10.00. on one of my trips back from the HDR the driver put the meter on and it came to 5600,(that’s a little over 11.00) so 10.00 is a deal.

I moved to the Presidente for my last 4 days it’s a big down grade but it is close to everything. I think I will try the SL next time for a few days but a will be staying at the Marriott for the again for the first part.

Hope this helps you, have fun!!

The language school is in San Pedro if Im not mistaken, or East San Jose?

Anyways San Pedro area and Los Yoses are pretty close to downtown San Jose so you could easily take a cab for 2-3$.

That leaves you with basically any hotel to choose from. Presidente and Balmoral are probably the classiest hotels youll find downtown, but Balmoral has a pretty high "guest fee". With your CRT membership you can get a junior suite or spa room at the Presidente for under 100$ ( I forget exact price ).

Although you will see guys walking with younger girls into the hotel, it wont ring out "sex hotel". They have a pretty good policy and like to get the girls upstairs ASAP to avoid and troubles.

If Im mistaken and its not San Pedro area your talking about then well damn.

Marriot would be a very long drive from San Pedro if that is the case.

The Amon Plaza Clarion is a nice upscale hotel,
with CRT rates. A block from Zona Blue.

If you are not wanting to be identifed as a monger, I would avoid the Presidente. While it is true that many couples and families do stay there, a great deal of the single men are mongers, and it is know to be a mongering spot by locals. Amon Planza is a good choice, as Shyone stated..

CiaoCiao,

If you're doing business in San Pedro/east San Jose, you probably won't want to stay out by the airport, although a few CRT guys use the hotel regularly. One fellow I met last year, Santa Cruiser brought two chicas with him into the Marriott without any hassle, but it's a long way from where you'll be doing business.

At your desired level of amenities and at your price point, you have two good choices downtown IMHO. The Presidente, although a famous monger hotel, caters to business travelers and ecotourists too.

The Clarion Amon Plaza while chica friendly, doesn't actively encourage the monger trade. As proof I offer their recently-instituted $25.00/girl visit fee. The Clarion offers a conference center, small business center and Internet. It's dining room is good, as someone else pointed out it's a block from Zona Blue and it's only a few blocks from Ground Zero. Contact Mr. Nixon Netto at the Paradiso Casino in the hotel to get a preferred, greatly-reduced rate ($75.00 the last time I checked, saving $40.00 bucks minimum off the rack rate).

If you're willing to downscale a little, the Holiday Inn Arroyo is chica-friendly (with a high fee).

The last two nights of your stay could be spent anywhere, providing you won't run into any colleagues; the Sportsmen's Lodge has excellent service and amenities, and it feels like a really nice albeit slightly more tranquil version of the American frat house. Working girls are selectively admitted into their bar/restaurant; this is a decidedly hobby-friendly property.

Hope this helps. Enjoy!

I did not expect to get so much good advice. Pyschman's admonition about the Presidente was well taken;even though it doesn't scream "sex tourism," it probably whispers it loud enough to make my associates suspicious. The Amon (thanks to Shyone and Pyschman) should be adequate, and it does have free high speed internet. Best of all, a one room suite cost me only $84/night. However, thanks El Ciego, for the background. In fact, my location is San Pedro for the first few days and I guess there will be no hassle getting back and forth from the Amon. Now the easy part is done. I have to start researching the mongering and it looks like I have my work cut out for me.
You guys are the bomb!! I hope that I can contribute back to the board.
I should probably post this elsewhere, but I have been reading the newbie sections and wonder if there is a relatively comprehensive treatise as to the CR mongering scene posted here? I would devour it with gusto.

Ciaociao,

What are you attempting to learn?

Here's an overview in 200 words or less:

Mongering in San Jose is divided roughly into five different flavors: Massage parlors, independent working girls in bars, strip clubs.nightclubs, ******* and street girls.

Massage parlors offer sexual services and massage; some offer steam, sauna and/or cocktails. Prices range from around $12.00/half hour in the low-end joints, all the way to an undiscounted $42.00/hour at Zona Blue and $44.00 per hour at Bar Idem. Quality of chica looks varies, as does quality of service; some centros de massajes are more highly reviewed than others. Faves around here include Zona Blue, New Fantasy, Oasis and Bar Idem.

Independent girls from several countries work the bars where they are welcome. The Blue Marlin Bar and Casino Del Rey at the Hotel del Rey are famous, as is their Key Largo nightclub across the parking lot from the HDR. Other bars include Bar Monaco, the Monkey Bar, the New York Bar and the bar at the Sportsmen's Lodge. You can expect to pay anywhere from $40.00 - $100.00 per hour at these places, and you must negotiate every parameter of your encounter as well as price before taking the girl to your room.

Nightclubs (strip clubs) offer nude dancers, live lesbian shows, loud music, expensive drinks and on-site sex. CPF in these clubs can range from $16.00 at Arkada's to ??? at clip joints such as Elite and Hollywood. Often, a bar fine can be paid, allowing you to take a dancer off-premises for sex; the exit fine is in addition to what you negotiate with the girl. Usually, screwing on-site is more cost effective.

******* don't get much play on CRT, because the other options seem more cost-effective. However, escort services exist. G. & G. ******* offers CRT VIP's a nice discount. Costs range up to $250 for 24 hours, certainly much less for an hour or two.

I only mentioned street girls, because you'll encounter them by the dozens. I only know of one CRT member who regularly picks up street girls, but most of us wouldn't touch them with a stolen dork. Why? Well, try drug addiction, und***ge girls and a bevy of transvestites...you get the idea.

Prostitution is legal in Costa Rica; pimping and running a brothel are not. Despite its legal status, one must never make the mistake of believing that all the locals are comfortable with it. Some are more tolerant than others, but some folks in C.R. have a real problem with prostitution. Be careful how and whom you ask for information about the scene. Age of consent for prostitution is 18 years.

Outside San Jose, opportunities for p4p are limited. The Beatle Bar and Monkey Bar in Jaco Beach, Itsamana and Bar Rosa in Quepos/Manuel Antonio, Bar Mexicana in S. Isidro del General come to mind. However, most of the action is in San Jose proper.

If you've never whoremongered before, read the advice of more seasoned members here regarding negotiation with independent contractors (girls who work the bars, rather than massage girls or strippers). Most of us strongly advise trying to get even the hottest ones off their $100.00 - $150.00 per hour opening price. And most succeed.

If you see a woman you want, move quickly. As you might expect, the really hot girls have a fair amount of business; don't dawdle and let some other putz grab your dream girl.

Play safe. All rules regarding safer sex must apply here. Furthermore, recent increases in crime, particularly armed robberies in the areas around the Blue Marlin have prompted some concern among us. Be vigilant and street-smart, take cabs at night, don't flash jewelry/expensive electronics/wads of cash. While we're on the subject of protecting one's ass, keep in mind that the streets and sidewalks of San Jose are in horrbly bad repair...watch your step or you'll break an ankle.

Now, the most important piece of advice. Well, two pieces of advice. Use the Search function to locate and read articles about a particular locale, girl or topic. The second piece of advice I'd give you is...

Have fun! :D

I am only happy that you can't count as well as you write. Thanks for the tips. You have broken it down nicely for me and I look forward to further hands on research.

IMHO the key to mongering San Jose is the organization. Massage Parlors in the morning and afternoon, Del Rey in the evening, strip clubs late night.

But like El Ciego said, if your going to do the strip club thing READ some of the posts here. It will save you hours of arguements and alot of money. Unless you have a very thick wallet, I would avoid Elite, Hollywood, and Atlantis altogether.

Pantera Rosa "The Pink Panther" in my opinion is the best place to go after midnight.

For massage parlors, I would say Zona Blue and New Fantasy. Oasis is good, but I doubt youll get around to it on a short trip. Zona Blue and New Fantasy are nice because their less then a 5 minute walk apart, so you can check out both and see which has the best talent.

The Del Rey AKA Blue Marlin Bar is self explanitory. Grab a see, or walk around and try to keep your jaw closed. :D
You will honestly see some girls in here that will amaze you. I swear some of these girls could be top models in some magazines. Always some new facaes so you never know what you'll see. Most girls wil lask for 100$ right off the bat. Try your best not to give in because 95% don't expect to get that. Most of the top girls will drop to 80$ if you work them hard enough, and the not so "hardened" ones will usually drop to 60-70$ if you have a little negotiating skills.

Also, negotiate everything you want. If you BBBJ (blowjob no condom ) tell them that before you head to the room. These girls have heard it all so ask away. Backdoor action is even available with some , opps did I say that out loud? Its just so hard to pass down

Surprised no one has mentioned the Holiday Inn Aurola. Very near all the action but not a hint of a mongering hotel. Rooms are more expensive and the chica fee is $20 but, all totalled with room and chica fee you can stay well within your goal of $150/night. Nice rooms with an outstanding view.

Just hope your associates don't get into the room, look out to the south and wonder about the "big pink building." If so, your cover is blown. :-)

Actually Dapanz, I did mention the Holiday Inn in my first post to this thread, but I think I misspelled the name "aurola." I thought it was arroyo" (wash, river bed). I believe however that their chica fees are fairly high. Am I misinformed?

Well, with your budget why not get a decent but not too expensive hotel near your business activity, and then pick up a second room -- one of the Del Rey's cheapest rooms (~$59+/-) for the last two nights/three days? Pay for the Del Rey in cash. It's really convenient to have a pad so close to the action. The Del Rey fills up; so you'll need to reserve in advance.

There is another option. Perhaps with all the construction noise, the Presidente might have a spare room for you on a walkup/cash basis. What do you care about the noise? You can go back to your nice hotel if you want to sleep.
