The best place I've been to in San Jose for live entertainment (sin sexo) is the Jazz Cafe. I believe it is located near the mall in San Pedro. My Columbian chica took me there one night back in November and we had a great time. They had a live band playing a mixture of Bob Marley, Carlos Santana, and misc. latin tunes. If you're looking for a great date place outside of the gulch this is it. Anyone else check this place out or know of any other place like in in San Jose? |

boner, I've been there a couple of times. There is 1 problem. You can't hit on chicas cause the music is too loud. So if you just want to hear music & bring a date it's ok. But I like to mingle & hit on non pro chicas. |

We should get a group together to go there next time Jazz Musician is in town as I believe he plays that venue whenever he goes to SJ |

CR, You're right, the music is a tad loud and it's more of a place to take a date rather than a pick up joint. |

I have been there twice with different dates and both enjoyed the music and the atmosphere. |

Jazz Cafe used to play jazz 6 nights a week. They would love to continue that tradition but for financial reasons, have to present a variety of music including the loud stuff. But in talking to the owner who is a jazz historian/buff, he insists on bankrolling a night or two of local or international jazz talent per month. Check out the busts of Pops, Bird, Duke, Basie, Billie and others on the left wall as you walk in. I'm playing two concerts at Centro Cultural (Eugene O'Neill Theater, known as TEO) in March, one afternoon live broadcast and one evening performance. Still working out details for a return to the Cafe on the same trip. JM |
