Hola amigos,,
I noticed that the Palmares festival starts this weekend and could be something interesting and different to do in our recupperating hours but I do not know where Palmares is or how to get there or even if its close enough to be a consideration. Has anybody been there before who has an opinion if its worth visiting and how to get there from the gulch
I will be there in 2 days (sat jan 14) and look forward to meeting new and old freinds in the BM . I will be there for 5 weeks and hope to expand my horizons beyond the gulch and beyond just mongering. Although I plan to do my share of mongering I also plan on hitting the regular bars ect and welcome you guys to tag along if any of you have the same thoughts.
Hasta Luego, Junkyard Dog,,, grande barco pero pequeno biteo

Hard to give directions, but there are more nubile, young ticas there than in anywhere in the country for the next 10 days. And they don't see gringos all the time.

Junk, I'll arrive Monday the 16th. The festival sounds like a great day trip. I would love to go. I wonder how it is on weekdays?

Palmares is just off the PanAm Hwy a little over halfway between Naranjo and San Ramon. For the truly geographically challenged thats about 30 minutes beyond the airport). If you don't have a car I'm not sure about public buses to Palmares but there is an hourly express bus from SJ to San Ramon that takes about an hour and which will probably stop at or near Palmares during the festival.

Frequent bus service to Palmares from San Jose. Bus departs from Coca Cola every hour from 5 AM to 9 PM. Fare is about 500 colones.

May be later service during the fiesta not sure about that though.
