I know this has been asked before but games do come and go .. so .. where and when can I find live poker games in San Jose and Jaco ?

Are the games ongoing or do they run only when there is sufficient interest (i.e. enough players).

Cash games are my preference .. you get a little more flexibility than a tournament that starts at a fixed time.

TIA

The Ray has a good cash game in colones. Cheap, like 1/2$ blinds

Right now, only Del Rey has a game in the gulch. It's $1/2 and they also have a colones game as was mentioned. It starts daily at 2 or 3 pm and can go into the morning hours. It's run by an American named Dave (Texas Dave). It's usually a full table in the evenings. Locals and tourists. It's a loose game. The ticos that play have money to lose (some seem to be good players). Big pots with small cards. Be patient and attack on big hands.

so what I'm hearing is The Rey and Escazu in SJO and I think Croc's in Jaco (iirc from searching)

it kind of sounds like cards might be a decent way to fill in the down time, provided I can get a seat. That kind of sucks in a way but I realize SJO poker isn't the same as in Vegas or LA where u can sit down any time .. a data point to feed to the planning computer

appreciate the responses so far thanks

In Jaco, it is Cocal that has poker games, both cash and tournaments.

why not? You come in and sit down if a seat is open. The only thing is that with one table there may not always be an open seat right away.

The jaco game is limited at the cocal. It runs from 8 to 1 and usually has two tables in the winter. there are some terrible terrible tourists that play. Frank runs the game and he will give you a 20 pct discount on cocal rooms if you are playing nightly while staying. 90 pct of the time i paid for my girl and room from playing in that game.

It's totally cool that you're asking about poker games in San Jose and Jaco again because, you're right, things can change! I'm all about the cash games too - that flexibility is a game-changer, no pun intended.

So, in Jaco, you've got that game at the Cocal from 8 to 1, and it sounds like a pretty sweet deal with Frank running the show and that discount on Cocal rooms. Plus, paying for your girl and room from your winnings? That's the dream!

The locals in CR play like lunatics, as if money was no object, I wouldn't even call it bluffing, just reckless. If you can stay patient and wait for a good hand, not even a monster, you can do well. But remember variance, they play any two cars, so you'll lose some with a good hand to 63 off.
