All the posts I found on the forum are pretty dated and links do not work. Has anyone had any Laser Eye work done in Costa Rica or have a referral of a doctor that knows what they are doing and takes care of their patients.

I got LASIK two years ago in Atlanta. And there are going to be follow up appointments to make sure everything is healing correctly. Also if they dont get it exactly correct you may need to go under the knife (laser) again. For me, the right eye was off just a bit, which caused blurriness. But because the doctor wants the eye to be completely healed I could not go into surgery until 6 months later. They eventually got it perfect, but if I were to have gotten this done over seas it would have been a much more stressful situation.

Just want you to be aware that you may need to return to the clinic for follow ups. Good luck, and if everything goes well you will LOVE Lasik. One of the best decisions Ive made.

Its actually for a friend who would not mind making repeat trips as it would make it easy for him to escape... I am not quite ready for it but I have a feeling when my time comes I will living in CR.

I has Lasik in 2005 with one of the best in South Florida, same Dr. that treated many of the professional sports players down there. And still I was completely paranoid but best thing I ever did. Was 20/400 most my life however since have been no more than 20/25. I did I have to have one eye retreated in 2006. An aside but so many Optometrist businesses as they do always keep trying to upsell me an Rx for even a small case of nearsightedness. But I decline every time because once they start giving you an Rx next time it is 20/30, then 20/35.....

Back to the question I would never have it down anywhere but U.S. unless I live full time in a more reputable medical country such as C.R. Just too many risks and complications where if you need to be seen the next day or next week and can't get back to C.R. you are S.O.L. Also there are some horrible horrible complications that you just don't want to risk if you don't have to. One of the scariest is where when they peel the cornea back they "overshoot" and then can't re-attached it, has fallen to the ground infected or just disappeared or even so badly damaged. Eeeeew!

Just my $.02.

Excellent advice. I have passed it along. Thanks for taking the time to point out the pitfalls he has now scratched the thought of getting it done in CR and will have to settle for fishing....

It's serendipitous that you ask just days after I saw a story on the local TV news about a suicide after Lasik complications.

Be very wary about getting Lasik no matter where you go, even after 20 years people have too high expectations and don't understand the risks involved, the limited criteria used for a sucessful operation, after effects and what complications can arise:
