I’ll be making my first trip down to SJ April 16. Was just wondering where the best places to gamble are? Slot machines and black jack. I’ll be staying at SL so if it’s close to there even better. Any info is much appreciated, thank you

I don't gamble because I always seem to lose in a casino. There are really two options close to the SL. There is the Colonial Casino right next to the Del Rey and the Taormina down the hill from the SL. Both are walking distance but I would take a cab / uber at night. Every time I go into the Del Rey, it looks like their casino floor is getting ready to open, machines and tables are on the floor, but something is holding things up. Probably have some unpaid taxes or permit fees.

There are a couple of smaller places on Avenida Central toward the Central Market that I have never stopped in. I would guess they are machines only but could be wrong.

I cannot comment on how "honest" the games are but don't assume that these places are regulated like the casinos in Vegas. Its pretty wild west.

Thanks for the info. I probably won’t do too many machines because of them not being regulated

Holiday Inn Casino would be my second choice to the Colonial Casino both about equal distance from SL

You are taking a gamble in more ways than one each time you pick up a CR hooker.

I like the Colonial in the central area. The Taormina casino can occasionally make up a rule if you gamble too big. Like the rules between blackjack and rummy can get blurred depending on what is best for them at the time. Outside of central if you want to make a event of the gambling occasion, Fiesta Alajuela is also a very nice establishment; its clean, big, a wide array of games, and lots of people having fun. If you want something more upscale I would recommend Grand Casino Escazú. It's at a fancy hotel, with fancy people. I would recommend that you dress decent, jeans/button-down/clean shoes (I realize a lot of you guys wear 'poverty-camouflage' to avoid robbery) foreigner or not they might not let you in, the Costa Ricans with money come here in slacks, suits, and range rovers lol.

I’ve been to San Jose a few times and can recommend some great spots for slots and blackjack. If you’re staying at the SL, you’re in luck because the Casino de San Jose is pretty close by and has a good range of slot machines and table games, including blackjack. One thing that really helped me was learning a bit about how slot machines work. I found this article really useful: https://revolverrani.com/how-slot-machi ... -features/ – it gave me some insights into the features to look out for and how to maximize my chances.

Good luck finding "Casino de San Jose" anywhere near the SL. So what sort of scam comes next?
