Fox (or Faux) News had a good article on Costa Rica today with a lot of ideas for enjoying the country and the many activities available. If you are thinking of getting out of the gulch, worth a read.

Yes, I agree. There is something for everyone in Costa Rica. There is a good tourism infrastructure in place, and from what I saw in November, the roads have improved significantly since my previous visit 5 years ago. I had almost forgotten how much I used to enjoy exploring Costa Rica... until I made my last trip.

If you are new to CR or just hinky about self-guided tourism, look into the Caravan Tours bus trip around the country. They hit all the high spots with plenty of free time, and not just at night. On mine I forewent the dubious pleasures of Manuel Antonio (I've had skin cancer twice) to spend the day in Jaco and nursed a hangover on the bus while everyone else shopped Sarchi.: http://www.caravan.com/tour/costa-rica << there's other tour companies, natch, but I had a good, safe time with them
