Post subject:  Southern Caribean Coast,

I am planning a trip to the Caribean Coast after Superbowl weekend. If anyone else is interested PM me.It is like a different country over there.I plan to go at least to Puerto Viejo and how long I stay depends on wheher I luck into any action over there. It is always only a 4 hour bus ride back to San Jose.Might even stay a night in Limon if I have a wingman don't want to hang out there very long alone.I plan to leave San Jose on the 9th of Feb.Also interested in budget to moderate priced hotel in Puerto Viejo with hot water if anyone has suggestions.rbc100

RBC,
Tman is in Puerto Viejo now for New Years. Believe he is staying at Kayas Place which offers a CRT discount. As I remember he said he was going to post a trip report when he got back but if he doesn't you might want to PM him.

RBC - I didn't see any 3K colone massage parlors there, you might want to re-think this trip...

I did stay in PV over the holidays. Lots of people including hookers which I didn't partake of because I met a crazy Israeli gal - but lots of partying, fireworks ect. It was a great time except for raining every day, getting robbed in my room while Sleeping in the Phucking Bed, and so on...

Really though the coast is very beautiful and I will go back but during a drier season.

I didn't get to stay at Kayas (the theft thing made me sorta broke) but I did meet the owner JT a good guy, and he gave me the tour. Very cool hotel, the building is a work of art with the wood and tiles. It is just on the outskirt of town as you come in - away from most of the crazyness and noise. The beach Playa Negra across the street is great and safe to swim if the surf isn't extreme. The resturant is fantastic I had a couple great meals there. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Kayas, it is much better than the pictures on the website.

I stayed mostly at PV B&B which is on the other end of town toward Cocles for $20/night single. It was OK enough for the money and the people are nice if a little on the drunk side. Where I got robbed was next door at the Sushi Jacuzzi place which was fun but... When I left a Tico was screwing all of the windows shut LOL.

If anybody wants the # for the B&B let me know.

In case you missed my report from last week.

I guess since I left its been sunny and beautiful there  . To me the area is even beautiful and relaxing with rain. Next few months should be dryer. Definitely check it out. Kayas place has SOME rooms with hot water...but I didnt have one, and when its hot, a cold shower feels good anyways. One young guy we saw the other night said he had been to the Pacific coast MANY times and never the Caribbean because everyone always spoke negative of it (Tico racist thingy)...but after the new years weekend there with all the cool partiers, he said he's NEVER going back to the dull Pacific. While I have friends and fun at Jaco occasionally, I still prefer R&R in the south caribbean...

Post subject:  try the non-pros

PV is not much of a pro town--
hit the main nightspots--Jonnies, Stanford, Bambu, buy tourist women drinks, and you might get a semi-freebie (hey, drinks still cost ya know)

I spent almost all of my first trip in PV. I absolutely loved it. I slummed it on the beach in $5 hammocks at a place called RockingJ's. A couple of days after the SB party, I will head back there. It is way too scenic and peaceful to pass up.
