Good to see that CRT is alive and well. Hard to believe i joined when it started back in 2003. I haven't been mongering in way too long. A lot of people have told me that Jaco has "grown up" since my last visit. I was sorry to learn that The Beatle Bar is no more. Plenty of good/foggy memories there.

I've heard about Hotel Cocal and it sounds like the DR of Jaco. Any recommendations for ticas in perhaps a little more mellow setting? Any Colombianas? Any insight appreciated. McGee

There's been some good discussion of Jaco lately. Here's one--"Search" will show others:

Hey Mcgee

You wanna Phuck forget Jaco - stay in San Jose - lots better options, pricing, whatever - Jaco is really expensive; for food and lodging and pu*sy - and the place is still hot, dirty and the beach nothing to write home about.

You want Colombianias, go to Colombia - not nearly as many in recent years in CR - immigration hassles, whatever - as in years past; while many were beautiful, many were also mercinary - also, the Beetle Bar was a huge rip off - the cover a year or so ago was $14 - not worth it. Good story/lesson to business who think they have a captive market, when they really have a customer base that can vote with their feet

If you have been a member since 2003 you should know TICA means female Costa Rican - its not another word for working girl - you may have been "away" for a while, but that's one constant that has not changed
(Using the word to mean whore is highly offensive to Costa Ricans - and others)

9 years is a long time to be gone. 2004? The year Reagan died at 93 and Boston won the World Series for the first time since 1918 when Reagan was 7.

Scuba is right, Jaco prices are really, really nuts in high season, almost all seasons now, way cheaper for hotels and similar puss in SJ, but you've made the decision so go have fun. It's the only beach town with any realistic p4p and since your last trip, there's the new highway so it's less then 2 hs to SJ. Sweet, and despite the so-so beach you get out into the country side a little.

The Cocal is where the action is, sometimes starting in smaller numbers as early as noon or an hour or so later and then increasing to max until 10pm or so, and then it drifts around town to a few other bars. But don't worry, there are plenty of Tica or Nica whores running around town--even during the day on the beach.

Hook up with some guys who know the scene once you get there and they'll let you know the after 10pm joints or where else earlier to hunt if you don't like the Cocal scene. But I think you will when it comes to the whores, not sure about your accommodations if you are staying there. Basically, Cocal has cornered a majority of the whore market and their hunters until it dies out around 10pm.

Jaco city has "grown up" as you have heard, more bars/eateries/hotels/stuff since 2004. You will be surprised I'm sure. Now, even huge condo developments, some finished, some seemingly in foreclosure or dead in the water for quite a while now.

But Jaco has not gotten bigger geography wise so as you'll remember, it ain't like you're going to be travelling long distances to hit a place--everything is still on or just off the main "no red light" drag. Most times now in the dry season walkable unless you are lazy and don't want to get sweaty like me. Late at night and stiff may be different thinking.
