It has been a while since anyone has posted their experience with dentists in San Jose. I am planning a visit back to SJ and plan on having some crown work done as well as cleaning, etc. The last reports on dental care were posted back in 2006. Anyone out there have any good or bad experiences with local dentists? Your information is appreciated. |

I hope the Admin reads your post. There have been hundreds of dental posts since then, the search feature on this board is not responding properly. I searched for cell phones a week ago, and I know there's a gazillion on that, and I got one page. 90210 is popular, good, a few guys weren't happy, one guy w/ burnt gums, but that'll happen, just hopefully not with you. OK by me. I might think twice of them for perio work. Doc they use is a great guy but no formal advanced dental/perio training other then working in one of the shit hospitals. There are three-four American Board Certified perio's in SJ--find them online--American Board of Periodontists? I forgot. And it's a pain in the ass at the end of the day when you are all sore, about 45 minutes back to the gulch at rush hours. Why they choose that location is a mystery, I guess I can figure it out, cheap. Cavellini is the most popular with Ticos, best prices, problem: you'll be sitting in the waiting room. Check out A.M Costa Rica, he runs an adv almost daily. |

And I know of one more. I think she's not there anynmore, saw her photo on line at a different office recently. But the one everybody digs (Yelda) is still there. Her titties make the best cushions. I really wonder if she does that on purpose or just doesn't care. Anyway, nice. |

Thanks for all your posts... I am thinking of heading to SJO tomorrow... Glad that DonGordo's gal is still there. I haven't read any negative posts about her. I will also speak with the other dentists mentioned. |

I was the original burned gums poster (photo of my burnt gums in the VIP gallery). I would trade the hot dentalista for an ugly, fat, knowledge, experienced dental assistant every day of the week and twice on Sundays. I aint banging the dental help! I tried to save a buck or two and look what it got me. Burn me once, shame on you, burn me twice, shame on me! |

When you get there, tell them to change their ad on the board or they will perpetuate their 90210 brand. |

Okay... my report card for Costa Rica Dental Team (formally 90210) gets high marks. First, I was picked up at my hotel by a great (transplant expat) from the Boston area named Paul. He was on time, friendly and knowledgable. I arrived at the CRDT and was greeted by a friendly staff. Michelle (who I had dealt with on the phone prior) was friendly, adorable and on her game. The place seems to be run well. It is clean and has a huge lab on the second floor where about 50 locals are busy making crowns and other "teeth" products for many local dentists, as well as for CRDT. The dentist assigned to my case was Dr. Natalie V. She was warm, personable, professional (no she didn't give me the facial rub that might be important to some, but not me). Have you ever taken your car to the shop when you thought that you needed a full brake job and they looked at your car and said your brakes were just dirty and needed to have the pads cleaned? Well, transcend this to the dental office. I went in thinking I needed to have a crown replaced. They quoted me a good price (about a third of what my dentist would charge in the states. Plus they promised to have it done the next day as opposed to waiting a couple weeks. Anyway Dr. Natalie took a look and said that it appeared that my crown was ok, but it needed to be filed down just slightly in order to reduce the pressure when it hit the lower tooth. I was so pleased that she had the green light to tell me I needed the crown, yet good ethics prevailed and she recommended what I needed rather than what would have made more money for her and the clinic. Anyway, instead of a new crown and/or root canal, I left with three replacement (white) fillings taking the place of old metal fillings. I also had a great cleaning done. All for the agreed upon price. I highly recommend this clinic. Although I did not meet the other dentists there, Dr. Natalie and the entire staff get A+ in my book. Thanks again for all who contributed to my decision. |

Do a google on Dr. Chen in San Jose. He's a couple blocks south of 2nd Ave. Been around for years. Better prices than the "advertised" places. Very satisfied with the results also. |
