Post subject:  Single Day Tour Recommendations?

Coming down for the last weekend of the month (June).

For Friday and Saturday, I want to check out some of the sites of beautiful Costa Rica. I'm mainly looking to see the rain forest and maybe a white water rafting or zip-line trip, if at all possible.

I would want to keep it a daytime trip only. I need to get back to the hotel, sneak in a shower, change some clothes, grab a bite to eat and well.....you know.

Anyone got any suggestions?

I did a three part tour to poas volcano, doka coffee plantation, and la paz waterfall gardens through marbella tours. Price was very reasonable and still had plenty of time after to squeeze in a few sessions. Worth checking out any of their tours. They pick you up and drop you off right at your hotel which is nice.

Here's Marbella's Website: http://www.marbellatours.com/
In addition, though, the 3-in-1 tours offered by companies at your hotel should do fine. For further info, try a PM to Brother Puravidatransport--he's in the knowledge AND transpo business.

Check out their combo tours. Looks like exactly what you are looking for. I too will be in starting on Friday the 29th staying at the Sportsmen Lodge. Could make for a good way to get out of the city for a day and get some pictures for the folks back home.

Thanks fellas for the tip.

Mr. Steve from puravidatransport.com has helped me out and will be escorting me to some of the sites.

He is a good man and know that I'm in good hands.

Walk to parque Morazon, take a picture, have a beer at Chubbs then go back and find your next chica.

Here's the Website from this mention: http://www.colinasdelpoas.com/ << As the site is in Spanish, it's aimed at a Latino/a audience. This to me is a good thing.

Several years ago me and my wing got caught in a rare tornadic type storm in braulio carrillo national park while we were over the jungle canopy in a cable car. The winds tore the roof off the cable car and we were all exposed to heavy freezing rains, winds etc. trees in the forest got knocked on to the cables and stopped the cable cars from moving. Ch*ldren and women were hysterical and crying. It took several hours for park workers to cut the trees down off the cable so the cars could return to base. Once we got back to base they gave us coffee, towels and hot drinks. The manager of the park came to visit us to apolgize for what happenned. We all had to wait hours to get out of the park because they had to clear roads to get vehicles out. It was pretty scary stufff!

Another suggestion is to take the Tortuga Island cruise on a catamaran-hulled boat from Puntarenas. The website is: http://www.calypsocruises.com/ . It was a fun cruise back that includes breakfast and a great lunch on the island. I went on the cruise in 2004 when the cost was $79 per person. The price is now $139. The price includes an early morning pick-up in the gulch by the bus that takes you to Puntarenas.

You generally have three options
1. Bring rain gear and adapt
2. Stay on the bus or in the nearest cafe/visitor center and drink coffee
3. Get wet

To quote Ford Prefect, "If you want to survive out here, you've got to know where your towel is."

So second half of the trip is likely to be washed out?
Is it almost guranteed to rain every afternoon in these tourist places near SJO?
I dont mind a bit of rain for some time but dont want to get caught in torrential rainpours in middle of jungles in a 3rd world country.
I would rather stay back at hotel and enjoy udder kinda wildlife !!!!

Well, there is a reason it's called the "rain forest". :D This isn't southern California, all that lush vegeatation is the result of lots and lots of rain.

Now, you might get lucky and arrive during a relatively rain-free stretch of days. A lot depends on what else is going on in the region weather-wise. For example, a tropical system might wander in and park itself off of Honduras-Nicaragua for a while, and San Jose gets a week of torrential downpours. Or you get week of constant sun. It's hard to predict exactly what will happen, but the typical pattern is for rain to develop in the afternoon (usually hard but brief downpours) then to clear out by evening.

One solution is to go whitewater rafting. You're gonna get wet anyway, so a little rain won't matter! :D
