There will be a poker tourney at the club at the Barcelo Palacio Hotel Saturday at 6pm. The entry fee is $100 plus $10 fee. They guarantee $10,000 prize pool. They have always gotten at least 100 players. It's a nice event that doesn't cost much. They play Saturday night (7th) until the get down to a final table then those players come back on Sunday the 8th at 4pm.

Do they run this tourney every Saturday? I arrive on the 12th and leave on the 16th.

No. In general there is a poker tournament of this structure once a month at the No Limit Club inside the Barcelo San Jose Palacio hotel that VegasBob is referring to above. For more info it is best to check out their Facebook page, link posted below. If you look at their wall photos Diego does a decent job of putting out a monthly calendar. Expect there to be ample changes to times and fees, most of which is not Diego's fault.

And Bob, if you are still following this thread.... have you played in any of the satelliets that were being held at No Limit Club for the poker tournament later this month in Tamarindo? It looks like they have already passed the $10k guarantee based on pre-registration that has been open for a few weeks now. Could get to 200 players or a 40k purse. I will be heading to San Jose tomorrow afternoon for a couple of days, let me know if you have any plans to play this event. I live a short drive from there and will be playing myself.

The monthly calender is for March... I guess I'll just head over there and inquire with Diego.

Wow! You are right! Maybe it is on his personal page that I get the weekly and monthly calendars. I will keep looking on that page for where the calendar is. Or while in San Jose you can call the poker room at 2290.5950 or 2290.2290. Would save the trip.

The general idea is that they have daily $1-2 cash games going, they also have a colones game, I believe it is 200-500colones blinds. Occasionally you will find a really juicy $5-10 cash game and even a friday night $5-10 PLO or dealers choice cash game, but bring your money for this one as most will sit with some serious stack sizes. You will also frequently find Humberto Brenes and his son playing here, but not right now during the WSOP events in Vegas.

There are almost daily tournaments. For example as you look at their page today is a 8.500 colones bounty tournament that starts at 7 p, I believe.

@ CRGolfer

Thanks for the info! I'll definitely call over there when I get to the SL. Tell me, is Humberto Brenes as obnoxious in Costa Rica as he is in televised poker tournaments?
