I'd like to try it but I know it's the end of the dry season. Is it worth a try, or a waste of time and money?

I went about 2 and a half months ago. Ok, not super thrilling except for the las big class 4. Raft overturned and we were in a pickle for about 2 minutes. But we survived. LOL. The waterfall kept dragging us in and down!

I would say, wait. By now the water level has to be down even further. You should go at the start of the dry season. And ask the tour companies which are the better rivers. We went to Tenorio. It was ok, I believe there are better ones. Tenorio was just close to Tamarindo where we were staying.

For rafting tours from San Jose the main rivers they use are the Pacuare and the Reventazon.

Rio Pacure: class III & IV

Rio Reventazon: Florida section class III & IV. Pascua section class IV & IV+

Best months for rafting are June to October although the Reventazon stays fairly high in the dry season.
