Hi - I'm going to be coming into Costa Rica later this year, and I was wondering if anyone has any mongering information for the Coco/Guanacaste/Tamarindo area. While I've been to San Jose a couple of times, as well as Jaco/Quepos/Manuel Antonio, I have never been to the Nicoya Peninsula. I was able to use FF miles to score an open-jaw ticket where I fly into Liberia, and out of San Jose back to California, and I'm trying to figure out how much of my time I should plan on spending in that area before heading toward San Jose. Beaches and Water sports are undoubtedly nice there, but I will probably be more inclined to spend a significant amount of time in the the North-west coast if I can actually find some female companionship while I'm there. As I'm an overweight, greying, 50+ year-old, I don't expect to have the game to to pick up hot looking tourists, so I certainly would plan on paying for Ticas who are out of my class looks-wise rather than scoring the level of gringo tourist that I can generally score. My total trip is going to be 10 days, and I'm wondering whether to spend as much as 6 days along the coast, or as few as 3. Whether or not I can find reasonable P4P options in the northwest coast will probably be the determining factor.

I seem to recall the casino and a couple of clubs.
i think 1 of the clubs was called aqua

I am sitting at a cash game in the Belagio at the moment passing time between hands on my iPad..... just search my posts.

I have put out some very detailed info on Coco as I am a long time resident.... these posts are likely on page 2 or 3 of this very section if you scroll down a bit. Some good stuff in there.

PM for specifics.

As far a Nicoya.... Nothing to be found, and I mean nothing.... not even a homeless chica on the street would give you the time of the day.

Thanks, I found your detailed post on Playa del Coco. I was wondering if you'd recommend that area as being the best one in Guanacaste for a combination of beach, deep-sea fishing, and finding female companionship? In particular, I'm wondering how it stacks up to the Tamarindo area on those criteria.

Tamarindo has a nice beach, aside from the sewer pipe which, I sheet you no, discharges untreated sewage into the water, however, that is kind of the norm down there and if you stay away from it, it should not be a problem. There was one bar in town where the dozen or so hookers hang out (this was 3 years ago) there are also a surfer bar where the average age of the gringos & gas is like 12, j/k but they look at way to me, lots of white folks with dreads and corn rows. The hooker bar was in the center of town and the girls were generally speaking rather subpar, they wanted cien and would not move off of it.

I cannot comment on the deep sea fishing, but can say that if there is any action on Guanacaste, it will be around the Tamarindo area. hope that helps.

I also here there is some action in Liberia up the road. :D
