They offer 1/2 and 2/5 based on player interest. Play is pretty loose (i.e. $700 pot with pocket kings winning). |

Del Rey has a game going by about 4:00pm each day. Game ends by 4:00 am. Expect one full table and on Friday/Saturday expect two tables. The normal limits are 1/2 with the occasional 2/5 game. Mixture of tourists and local poker die hards. Good action and an improving game as far as the management is concerned on a daily basis. They have a new casino manager who did the right thing about two months ago when he mentioned the bad beat pool would be going up but needed to verify it with the accountant who had just returned from vacation. Sure enough the jackpot his that same night! Within 30 minutes he heard about it and came back and stood by his word and raised the jackpot without waiting for the accountant and payed the players on the spot. One player, a local, had already left the table and he tracked him down and paid the difference the following day Barcelo San Jose Palacio has a poker room, No Limit Club, on site. You can search for their page on Facebook if you so desire. This is THE PLACE for ALL POKER action in San Jose. Daily tournament, cash games, Hold 'em, Omaha, 1/2, 2/5, 5/10. On Friday and Saturday you are likely to see Humberto Brenes or his son Alex playing in the 2/5 or 5/10 games. Even better and more intersting players who you will have never heard of unless you play in Bobby's room at Belagio are also staples of this poker room. Palacio is also the current home to Poker Hispano Tour events. You can check out pokerhispano.com for information on upcoming events. Usually once a month they host a $30k guaranteed event that brings out a log of the poker players from around Costa Rica and even some from Panama. I played in the Poker Hispano Tour main event in January (may have actually been first week of Feb) which was $150k guaranteed. As far as I know, at the moment the games that once existed in Sleep Inn and Horseshoe are dead. Dunn Inn had a great game going for a week but after some changes of opinion on behalf of the management that place is and will always be dead to me..... rob me once by about 20% on the exchange rate and I will NEVER forget. Outside of San Jose there are some good regular tournaments scheduled on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Info can be found at costaricapoker.org for these events. Tournaments take place at two different casinos, one is at Hotel Riu's casino... Casino Las Olas and the other location is the old Coco Verde casino in Playas del Coco. These tournaments include several players who have cashed in multiple WSOP main event and other WSOP events as well as winners of Poker Hispano Tour events and a couple of players who have made it to final tables of Poker Stars Sunday Millions events. Even one player who was childhood chess buddies with Gus Hansen and co-host of the World Series of Backhamon with Gus Hansen just a couple of years ago. Cash games usually happen on occasion after some of the bigger guaranteed events (once a month is a $3k guarantee event at Casino Las Olas and last week the prize pool was I believ $4,400ish) |

Lots of good info CRGolfer. CRGolfer wrote: I played in the Poker Hispano Tour main event in January (may have actually been first week of Feb) which was $150k guaranteed. I played in the inaugural Poker Hispano Tour in the Ramada Herradura back in October 2009 I think. I was leaving the day of the main event but I played the $300 buy-in. I finished 40-something out of about 150. I got taken out by an old lady (70+) ![]() |

It does bring up that I forgot about the poker room at Herradura.... unfortunately, the last time I have played there was the same 2009 event (I agree, it was either October or November.... I think a couple of weeks before the LAPT event that was at Reserva Conchal near Tamarindo). Without playing there in over a year I cannot accurately comment if there continues to be any poker action at Ramada Herradura. |

Great Information. Thanks a lot. Last time I was there when LAPT was in San jose probably in 2008 I was Qualified thro' Pokerstars. Did not do well in main Tournie but next day was second Chance tournament & I finished 5th on that. Pokerstars had great Cash games there & I did really well at 5/10 NL. After that I was in Downtown for few days at that time Clarion has 2/5 NL games going. Thanks again for Great info. |

Thanks westtex I'm pretty sure it's a standard rake, 10% of the pot, max $4, plus $1 from each pot goes towards the bad beat jackpot. It may have changed. Yes, the girls still ask for $100, and more. |

Colonial poker game was shut down for a few months. They are now open again and in style... The moved the game from the Sleep Inn casino back to upstairs in the main casino... It has 3 tables and is now called the VIP poker room... The action has been big for a 1-2 game. |

Del Ray had 2 games going when I was there on a Friday night 1/2 100 min 700 max buy in and 2/5 with 300 - 1500 buy in. I was shocked at the max and didn't have that much coin on me that night so I didn't play. A lot of money on the table so I didn't want to buy in for 2 or 3 hundred and get run over. If you have the roll with you looked like a good game. |

I have never been scared off by a bigger stack. I welcome the chance to play against them, but I'm pretty patient, I wait for a decent hand. I don't chase (much ![]() |

True - but in this economy, you really don't have to pay it - seriously ![]() |
