What are the options to play poker for a couple of hours? I heard HDR always has at least one table running. Any other place in SJ downtown?

HDR is pretty much it.

I mostly play at the HDR. They usually get a game going around 5pm.It concludes long after an old guy like me likes to be home in bed. The Colonial (at the Sleep Inn) has a regular game going to the best of my knowledge. The Horseshoe says they have a game, but I haven't heard of anyone playing there.

It's not in the Gultch,( 15 minutes in a taxi) but the largest and most successful card room is at the Barcello Palacio.

I happened to be in the Palacio Saturday at 6:30pm to drop something off. I was very surprised when I walked in the card room and there were at least 6 full poker tables at that early time. Nice looking hotel too, pool, bar, spa, squash courts, a couple restaurants, a grand piano being played in the lobby.

I had never been there before and it was very high end for its unusual location.

VB is right on the money.

For casual poker try HDR, opens offiicially at 2:00pm, but gets going between 4:00 and 5:00, game closes at 5:30 am

Colonial Casino has a smoke free section of the casino in the Sleep in with a poker table.... action is similar to HDR

For very serious poker and different games try Palacio.... they will often have a 10/20 no-limit game going. Tournaments on a daily basis... I just played in a 3 day $150,000 guaranteed tournament last week. You can always check pokerhispano.com for poker information in spanish.
