You asked for it and you got it: In 1989, I was part of a engineer task force that went to the Penisula to launch 7 Bailey Bridges(I would be curious to see if they were still there as they were meant to last 30 years) we also built community centers and some schools (I would also be curious too know if they were still there) In the space of 6 months, I had a black panther leap out in front of my truck and across the road in one single bound, saw a pod of dolphins in the harbor that had to number over 100, and had exotic birds like macaws and toucans fly in and out of a local restaurant for a piece of chocolate. We used to drive over to the far side of the Osa to hit the beach and get away from the other soldiers. The big landowner there was Santiago Overes, he hosted BBQs for the troops a company at a time, every weekend. He liked us because he was a cattle baron and with the bridges in place he could get his beef to the slaughter house during the rainy season. I dated the local doctor in town, she was a real cutie who was required to do an internship at a rural health center for 1 year after med school (probably should have married her). I also dated Overes niece, but there was no spark there.
I think you will have a great time. I would be curious to know whether Puerto Jimenez has grown up at all as it was pretty much a one road town. Hope you have a great time!!
