I'm want to warn everyone about Angry Marlin Fishing owned and operated by Jose (Jowen) Saipaino. The guy is a total con artist, he has a wonderful website with pretty pictures, says the right things and sends out great e-mails about how honest he is and how he wouldn't lie about anything and of course he has a "No Skunk" guarantee. (reminds me of a quote from the movie Tommy Boy, " if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time") This is what my day of fishing with the so called Captain was....a box of shit with a guarantee slapped on it. We were suppose to fish out of Los Suenos in Jaco, as that's where we were staying. He picked us up at the hotel and as we drove past LS I inquired to our destination, he said ohhh I keep my boats in Punta Arenas a quick 30 minutes up the road (maybe in a Lear jet but not in a SUV), I had never been to PA so we took his word on it. He then proceeds to tell us a bunch of Bull Shit stories all day long, he said he was from Santa Barbara California and has a lot of high profile clients, he once had Senator Lot in his car and had to pull over so he could take a shit on the side of the road because he had a case of the runs (believable since we've all had to take a shit at the wrong time). Then he starts telling us how he's a Captain for American Airlines flying the 767 on "Deep South Routes" (I'm in aviation and pilots don't call South American runs Deep South, I'm in a good mood and no one likes to call BS unless their family) he then tells us he's 52 years old, had a 28 year carrier in the Navy as a pilot and has been working for American for 12 year, while spending only 2 years in the reserves...Hmmmmm 28+12=40 -2=38 - 52 =14 years old when you started flying for the Navy....unless your Doogie Houser M.D., your not flying planes at 14 for the Navy...Dumb ass...if your going to lie make it believable...I digress You all have to know this so you can see what type of con artist we're dealing with, as we get close to PA Captain Con Artist informs us he needs to drop us off at a hotel to have breakfast so he can get food and bait for our journey. I'll be back in 30 minutes to pick you all up....90 minutes later and 3 phone calls to his cell phone he finally picks us up, amazingly he has just witnessed a mother walking her Ch*ld across the street and the car in front of her ran her over and killed her leaving the Ch*ld an orphan and he now has to go to court to be a start witness, we drive by the scene of the accident and of course it's already cleaned up....we should have called it a day then, but we were now and hour away from Jaco and basically had no clue where we were. We arrive at the supposed awesome marina where he keeps his Armada, it was a scrap yard with 5 broken down boats and a bunch of metal everywhere. Oh sorry guys the 27 ft Trophy is broken so we have to take the 24ft POS (Piece of Shit), the same POS he was most likely trying to fix while we waited 90 Fing minutes!!!! We then have to shimmy down a crappy ass ladder to an uneven floating dock, crawl across another boat and into our POS. As we are cruising out to fish, he informs us we have to stop for fish as his bait shop didn't have anything, we come across a floating fishery and the guy only has 4 shiners and off course Captain Con Artist doesn't have any $$$, so we have to pay for the bait. I've been fishing a few dozen times and one thing I know is that if you don't have bait your not catching fish. We proceed to fish in front of Mel Gibson's home (so he says) and don't catch squat...we move around from place to place...each one his special fishing hole, " I was just here yesterday and we killed them" then of course we're all thinking about the no Skunk Guarantee, then all of the sudden my friend catches a 12 inch Jack, Captain Con then breaks out his camera and takes a picture of my friend with it, ending any chance of the Guarantee, Captain Con isn't a totally stupid con aartist. It's now 2:15pm and 10 miles away we see rain coming (surprise...surprise) so we head back to shore, Captain Con needs to learn how to drive a boat, we hit every wave sideways and every way known to kill a persons back, he has no clue how to use trim tabs, or in all likely hood they were broke like the rest of the POS boat.....we thankfully make it back to the derelict dock to get back to the NEW marina. As we tip the poor little deck boy, Captain Con asks for his $$$, I request the CR Tica's discount and he says that's only good if we use a credit card, he won't charge us the tax if we use our cards to pay.....No Fing way is this Jackass getting my credit card information....then we inquire about a discount for getting a late start, nope...he fulfilled his contract and due to weather it was cut short and he's not taking the blame for picking us up late because of the accident. He had us all by the balls, in a strange place, far from our hotel and in a gated marina with no way out....we paid and we then proceeded back to our hotel. The best Bull Shit story came on the way home....we pass over the bridge where the Crocs hang out, he shows us a picture of some handcuffs laying next to a Croc, he proceeds to tell us how he was picking up a client one morning and saw some cops throwing a body over the bridge....he then pulls over to inquire, and the cops tell them it was a Ch*ld molester and they had to get rid of him.....Surrrrre and I'm scheduled to fly the Space Shuttle next week to Mars.....like anyone in their right mind would slow down to ask cops as to why they're throwing someone over a bridge, if you did you dumb ass would be joining them. This guy thinks he's pretty slick....he may have Scammed me and my friends out of $800, but I will be sure to give him more than equal free publicity. I did some research on this guy, him being a VIP sponsor of CR Ticas was part of the reason I booked him. Shame on me for assuming this guy was legit because he was a CRT sponsor and had a Fancy website. I hope CR Tica's reads this and checks out the story, I along with my three other friends were on the trip and will be more than happy to give a detailed account of this Con Artist. The best thing I can do is share this story with other CRT members and hope they avoid this guy like he avoids the fish!!!! |

Guys, if you ever want to check out a boat, feel free to PM me. I have friends who have fished out of this area for over 15 years, one who writes a fishing report, and one who does electronics and such on a lot of the boats over there. No solicitation. And the good guys are a pretty tight knit crew in Los Suenos. They will say good things about the competition if it is true.

Jetman, Sorry for your misfortune. Not all crews in CR are like this, trust me. You got taken for $800 but hopefully, this guy will lose much more than that in future charters by everyone spreading the word about what a scam artist he is. Some of the things he did and said ?!?!??!?  Un-fucking-believable!  You had to pay for bait ? If he had half a brain, he could've put a line in the water or thrown a cast net and gotten all the bait you could handle! I hate to hear stories like this, especially when it's with a CRT Sponsor. Like I said, not all crews in CR are like this. And I have plenty enough experience to make that statement. Don't give up on offshore fishing in CR, as some of the most fertile waters in the world are just off the coast. I'm sure you'll have a better experience on your next offshore trip. Hell, it couldn't be much worse than this one!  The same rule for chica's also applies to charter boats - NEXT !!! Pura Vida, MG

I m coming down for first trip in late january..had to reschedule from october..fishing was definetly on the agenda..If angry marlin sux, who is a legitimate charter boat?? preferable close to jaco.. will hit gulch for 6 days and jaco for 2...any info much appreciated
